One cue I frequently give to people doing rows or Lat Pulls, is to "Let the elbows lead". Meaning that pulling exercises target the upper back muscles, and proper engagement of those muscles depends on scapular retraction and shoulder extension. Often I see people flex their hands when doing those moves, tipping me that their focus is on pulling the hands back, instead of letting the elbows lead.
Tip: when doing pulls, pretend there is something behind you, and you need to tap your elbows on that thing. That should facilitate proper form.

Guys, today marks the 13-year anniversary for Fitness for life. I continue to be amazed at the support from our awesome community.
As an aging business, I am keenly aware of how we need to continue to make upgrades to our equipment, quality, and services. Just over the last couple of months I have made significant upgrades including fresh dumbbells, larger and better picture TVs, a brand new rogue Echo 3 bike, new cable attachments, Roku devices on our cardio equipment, and we have brand new ellipticals on order.
You have my commitment that I will always strive to make Fitness for Life better and better for years to come. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you again for your friendship, your business, and your support.

The cable straight-arm pulldown has become one of my favorite exercises to give my clients. It's a great move to target the latissimus, posterior delts, triceps, and if done heavy enough, can engage the abdominals.
The antiquated practice of "isolating" muscles in the gym is done. Your body needs multi-joint, functional exercises that use the body as a system. Go big!

Ever wonder why the EZ bars (or sissy bar) are bent the way they are?
Fully supinated (palm up) bicep curls put the tendons of the wrist and finger flexors in a high stress position. Slightly rotating (pronating) the forearm during these exercises protects those tissues and decreases the likelihood of injuries such as golfer's elbow.
