🚗✨ Road trip time! One of our groups hit the road this past week for a much-anticipated stop at Buc-ee's — a favorite topic of conversation around the center! From the snacks to the shopping (and of course, snapping a group photo with Buc-ee himself 🦫), it was a day full of fun and laughter.

A huge thank you to our amazing DSPs for making adventures like this possible. Your energy, patience, and enthusiasm ensure our participants get to create memories that will be cherished for years to come. ❤️

✨ Big news at the Opportunity Center! ✨

We are excited to share that our Board of Directors has officially appointed Darren Peach as our next Executive Director, effective January 1, 2026.

Darren has been a dedicated member of our team for years, most recently serving as our Operations Manager. From overseeing finances and strategic planning to managing renovations and working directly with our clients, Darren has worn many hats with passion and purpose. His deep ties to the Owensboro community and his unwavering commitment to our mission make him the perfect person to lead us into the future.

This transition also marks the retirement of Rosemary Conder, who has served as our Executive Director for the past three years. Under her leadership, the Opportunity Center has experienced remarkable growth, expanded programming, and strengthened community partnerships. We are so grateful for the legacy of progress she leaves behind.

🍕✨ Yesterday, a group of our participants had the incredible opportunity to visit Becca Bakes! They toured the kitchen, learned more about the baking process, and enjoyed a delicious sampling of Becca Bake's Pizza Week creation, “Something To Snicker About.”

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Becca and her amazing team for welcoming us with open arms during such a busy week. Your generosity, warmth, and dedication to your craft made this visit truly special for everyone involved. Moments like these create lasting memories and inspire our participants to explore new experiences in the community. 💛

Yesterday, we received the heartbreaking news that one of our past participants, Mark Vollman, has passed away.

Mark was more than a participant here at the Opportunity Center — he was a friend, a bright light, and a part of our family. His presence left a lasting impact on our staff and those who had the privilege of spending time with him. Mark will be deeply missed, but the joy and memories he shared with us will continue to live on.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and all who loved him. 💙
