Today is National Workers Memorial Day!

Today we remember those who lost their lives on the job, and remain diligent in our efforts to fight for safe working conditions for all workers!

At a time with great technology advances, when worker safety and working conditions should be at the forefront, unfortunately we have the lowest number of OSHA inspectors in its history.

For 55 years Unions and Allies have continued to fight to uphold and advance these workplace safety standards that were gained through relentless efforts and exposing the toll of work related deaths and injuries as they demanded our government take action!

Today as we Mourn those we have lost, let that not be in vain!

Let us take action on our job sites, in our state houses and in the halls of Congress to demand they Hold The Line for Safe Jobs Now and advance rather than cut the standards so many fought and sacrificed for.

All workers deserve to come home at the end of a day's work!

All workers deserve safety and security on the job!

No Job should cost a life!

We gathered this evening to remember those who lost their lives on the job and will continue to do so each year!

Here in the Commonwealth,
79 workers left for work and never returned home.
79 families forever changed.
79 reminders that behind every failure of safety, there is a human cost.

These risks are not behind us... they are still present, and still growing.

In Industries like Poultry, line speeds continue to increase, pushing workers beyond safe limits. Faster lines mean less time to work safely, more injuries, and greater strain on the
workers who make sure food is in our grocery stores daily. These are not accidents... they
are consequences of decisions that put production ahead of protections!

We cannot accept a system where oversight is weakened, enforcement is under-resourced,
and workers are left to bear the burden of those actions.
We must demand stronger protections. We must insist on real accountability, for meaningfulpenalties for those who violate safety laws.

We must protect workers who speak up. We must ensure that the agencies tasked with
keeping workers safe have the resources that they need.

We must continue to speak up on these issues, because every worker deserves dignity.
Every worker deserves safety, and every worker deserves to come home!

To paraphrase Mother Jones "We mourn for those we have lost but must continue to fight
like hell for the living!"

National Workers Memorial Day is April 28th! If you have the ability to attend one of these events in your region please do so!

Labor leaders, elected officials and local workers gathered for the 27th annual Workers Memorial Day on the courthouse lawn Friday afternoon, hosted by the Owensboro Council of Labor.

Pro-worker bill SB 136 has cleared a key step thanks to bipartisan cooperation.

Thank you to the Republican lawmakers who helped move it forward: Sen. Phillip Wheeler, Speaker David Osborne, and Sen. Shelley Funke Frommeyer. Pictured with Sen. Wheeler and Sen. Funke Frommeyer are Kentucky State AFL-CIO President Dustin Reinstedler (right) and Lobbyist Gabriel Witt from UAW 862. (left)

Now it’s time for the full House to finish the job. Working people are counting on them.

📣 It only takes one minute to make your voice heard. Take action here: https://act.aflcio.org/letters/pass-sb-136-support-kentucky-workers/

Workers deserve real benefits not empty promises! Contact your legislator and urge them to vote no on HB732!

HB 732 is advancing quickly. Contact your legislator today and urge a NO vote. HB 732 is being sold as a way to expand benefits, but it actually creates a loophole that allows companies to avoid responsibility for the workers they rely on by offering voluntary “portable benefits.” That means com...

Union brother State Senator Gary Clemons stood strong today at a press conference on his first bill: repealing Right to Work in Kentucky.

RTW is an anti-worker policy, and its repeal is essential for better wages, benefits, workplace safety, and retirements that let workers age with dignity. The labor movement has your back, Gary. ✊💙

Support our Union Brothers and Sisters at Rainbow Blossom. Just cause provisions are not an extreme ask it's the normal!

💬 What do you think?
Should workers have the right to fair treatment and due process on the job?

Rainbow Blossom workers won their union in September 2023. Our Bargaining Committee has been working hard for our first-ever contract — and we’re so close.

The biggest thing standing in the way?
👉 The company refuses to agree to just cause.

So what is just cause?

Just cause means you can’t be fired, disciplined, or punished without a real reason.

Rainbow Blossom workers aren’t asking for anything extreme.

They’re asking for basic fairness and job security — the same standard protections union workers across the country already have.

✍️ Take action: Add your name to support Rainbow Blossom workers and tell the company to agree to just cause.
