On February 4th at or about 01:00, AMR crew Paramedic T. Guard and EMT N. Baskett responded to a cardiac arrest. Assessment showed that the patient was pulseless and apneic with family doing CPR. The initial cardiac rhythm showed Torsades de Pointes. After one defibrillation, ROSC was achieved and maintained. On February 19th, the patient was discharged from OHRH expected to make a full recovery. Great work to the responding crew! This call stands as a reminder of the importance of immediate recognition of cardiac arrest and the need to begin CPR. The family's quick response and recognition go a long way in the recovery of this patient. Outstanding work to all involved!

With snow and winter weather in the forecast, we want to remind you to take a few steps to prepare and stay safe—especially if you use home oxygen or other medical equipment at home.

Before the storm:
• Make sure you have enough oxygen on hand in case deliveries are delayed.
• Check that any backup oxygen tanks are full and easy to access.
• If you use an oxygen concentrator, confirm you have a backup plan in case of a power outage (portable tanks or batteries).
• If you use other medical supplies that require electricity (such as CPAP/BiPAP machines, suction machines, feeding pumps, or nebulizers), be sure you know how long they can run on battery power or what alternatives are available.
• Charge all backup batteries and portable devices ahead of time.
• Keep oxygen and medical equipment in a dry, safe place away from cold drafts.

During winter weather:
• Never use candles, fireplaces, or gas heaters near oxygen or medical equipment.
• Try to conserve battery power if an outage occurs.
• Keep emergency phone numbers handy, including your oxygen supplier, medical equipment provider, and local emergency services.
