We are incredibly grateful for the Southwire volunteers who spent the day helping us tackle a long list of projects across our campus. Their hard work made a noticeable impact, and our clients and staff are already feeling the difference.

In just one day, their team:

• Installed cabinets and assembled cubicles

• Deep cleaned our building and shampooed carpets

• Repaired our sinking swingset

• Organized our supply closet

• Hung TVs and built equipment for our vocational training rooms

• And even helped construct our new driving simulator

These improvements make our spaces safer, more functional, and more welcoming for the 450+ clients we serve each year.

Southwire’s commitment to giving back is truly inspiring, and we are so thankful for their partnership and generosity.

With Thanksgiving just one week away, we’re excited to share that our holiday support resources are back again this year for Puzzle Pieces families and the wider community.

Our Thanksgiving Activity Schedule and Food Choices Board are designed for those with verbal communication differences. These tools serve an important purpose:

• Visual schedules outline the flow of the day to reduce anxiety, support predictability, and help individuals understand what’s happening next.

• Choice boards provide a visual menu of options, making it easier to communicate preferences, reduce frustration, and promote independence.

Even for strong communicators, visual processing is often easier than auditory information. Using these supports can lower stress, prevent sensory overload, and help families enjoy the day together.

We know Thanksgiving can be overwhelming and unpredictable. Our hope is that these visual resources help make your holiday smoother, calmer, and more enjoyable by providing structure and choice in a way that feels comfortable and empowering.

We’re proud to offer resources that make holidays more accessible and inclusive for ALL.

Inclusive Circles students recently participated in a meaningful collaborative project with Owensboro Community & Technical College's Volunteer Club and the Career & Life Skills Certificate program to make pillowcases for Case for Smiles. This organization provides bright, cheerful pillowcases to children with pediatric cancer, and the ones made during this project will be donated to the pediatric unit at Owensboro Health.

A big thank you to Dr. Denise Hanes and Dr. Lalitha Kannan at OCTC for teaching students how to use sewing machines and helping them build practical skills along the way. It was the perfect combination of practicing life skills and giving back to the community—all in one project.

We want to send a big thank you to this team at the Daviess County Detention Center who made and donated three picnic tables for our campus. Our clients love using these tables to enjoy lunch outside while getting some fresh air.

We’re excited to celebrate Koty, who began his new job at Terry's Tees in early November as a Screen Print Assistant! In his role, Koty is responsible for cleaning and reclaiming screens once t-shirt orders are complete, as well as sorting and organizing orders to keep production running smoothly.

Koty’s strong work ethic and attention to detail make him a valuable part of the Terry’s Tees team. We’re so proud of his accomplishments and the growth he’s showing in his new role!

Last week, our Adult Vocational Program (AVP) clients volunteered with Christmas Wish, helping load and unload the U-Haul to get the building ready for the holiday season.

We’re so proud of our crew for lending a hand to such a meaningful community effort that brings joy to families across our region each year. Opportunities like this allow our clients to give back, build job skills, and experience the true spirit of the season through service.

At Puzzle Pieces, we believe in giving back to the community that gives so much to us. Our team is always eager to step up, support local causes, and be part of what makes Owensboro such a special place to call home.

Recently, our Residential Services team, Quincy and Amber, represented Puzzle Pieces at two incredible events — hosting a booth at the NorthWest Neighborhood Alliance Trunk or Treat at H.L. Neblett Community Center and serving as celebrity servers at the Black & White Gala for the Alma Randolph Charitable Foundation.

Whether it’s volunteering, celebrating, or showing up for our neighbors, we’re proud to be part of a community that believes in inclusion, connection, and giving back.

Our Kindergarten Readiness Group has been hard at work — and having plenty of fun — learning letters of the alphabet and practicing communication skills by working together to build the biggest racetrack!

In our ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) program, lessons like this go beyond academics. They focus on building foundational skills such as social interaction, teamwork, and language development — all through engaging, play-based learning. Each activity is intentionally designed to help our young learners grow in confidence and independence while reaching their individualized goals.

Because at Puzzle Pieces, every moment — even playtime — is an opportunity to learn, connect, and thrive.
