Yesterday was the conclusion of our National Nursing Home Week of 2026! 😊
We all had an amazing time making lasting memories with our residents, in which we love so much!
We celebrated “Rooted in Appreciation ” Day!
I thought about this post all evening yesterday because I wanted it to be a special post! I want our families, our community, surrounding communities, our families and above all, our residents to know that at Owenton Healthcare…. We are not just your typical nursing and rehab center! We are family!
But the the words “actions speak louder than words” keep coming to mind! Many of our employees and Department Heads spend many long hours in the building each and every week! We don’t do this because we are mandated, we do this because we truly care! We take time away from our own loved ones to make sure that your loved one gets the care they deserve! And that’s simply because we care!
Actions (good or bad) DO speak louder than words!
We hope you all enjoyed our events this year! We ARE, (you are) ROOTED AND APPRECIATED! We can’t wait to see what next year brings!
Happy Nursing Home Week 2026 to all! ❤️

Today was “Flower Power 80s”
We were able to dress like they did in 1980s. We also had some trivia games about the 80s! Residents kicked off the day with getting to choose their favorite donuts from Hos! They were definitely happy! Then we played wack a mole! Staff had to get under the tarp and residents got hit them in the head as they popped up, it was a lot of fun!
Of course I had to be the one of the ones getting hit. 😂
Then we all enjoyed pizza rolls and other snacks that you would’ve seen or heard of from the 80s! I overheard several talking about how long it had been since they are a pizza roll, while others were saying they still eat them!
We listen to the 80s music in the dining room while Kim and I served them lunch, everyone had a great time! The girls did an amazing job with decorating and and planning the day!
We made great memories! ❤️
Make sure you check in with us tomorrow night to see what’s happening tomorrow!

Yesterday, we experienced a Lilac-themed day at the Manor, where everyone wore their favorite shades of purple. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed watching staff participate in musical chairs and racing to set up the picnic. The residents played Lilac bingo and then competed against staff in a lilac trivia contest, with the residents emerging as the apparent winners 🫢. Please stay tuned for today's events. ♥️

Today we participated in "Blooming in the Bahamas." Residents took photos on the beaches. We enjoyed meatballs, smokies, and other snack foods, including my favorite pineapple upside-down cake. Residents and staff had a delightful time in the sun with a water balloon toss. Notably, Sandy Gordy and I emerged as the winners. Then we concluded the evening at the tiki bar with our preferred beverages. Stay tuned to discover our plans for tomorrow. 😜 We look forward to sharing our next activity with you.

Yesterday, we commenced National Nursing Home Week, which I eagerly anticipate every year. Kim, Lexie, and I launched the celebrations with "Magnolia Monday." The residents enjoyed watching the movie Steel Magnolias and crafting their own magnolias. A delectable lunch featuring fried chicken and an assortment of side dishes followed. Later, the residents planted their own magnolia trees, which we will care for throughout the winter and transplant to the lawn in the spring. Simultaneously, the staff engaged in other activities, including the game "Who Am I?" We showcased photographs of a dozen of our residents from their younger years, and staff members attempted to identify them. This activity proved to be an entertaining experience, watching everyone try to figure out who was who. We concluded the day with "Payback the Managers," where staff and family members could pay $1 per gallon to pour water on a manager of their choice. Interestingly, I received the most water, with a total of 46 gallons. I am uncertain how this occurred, as I believed I was the most well-liked. Nonetheless, we all had an incredible day. Stay tuned to discover what the rest of the week has in store, as we have events planned for every day. 😊

We apologize for the delayed post. We have been extremely busy at the Manor over the past few days and haven’t had time to share our recent activities. Let us take a moment to update you. On Saturday, we honored our mothers with a muffin celebration. The mothers and their families had an amazing time sharing quality moments together! We wish all mothers a happy Mother’s Day! ❤️
