Endometriosis is more common than most people think and it’s serious. 💜
At least 1 in 10 women in the US have it and some research suggests it could be as high as 1 in 5. That’s up to 6.5 million American women. 🇺🇸
Every month, tissue grows in the wrong places, bleeds, and has nowhere to go causing pain so bad that nearly 7 out of 10 women say it gets in the way of everyday life.
It can make it hard to have babies among women already struggling with infertility, up to 50% have endometriosis. It can spread to other organs, and there is no cure. 💔
The worst part? Most American women wait up to 10 years just to get a diagnosis seeing an average of 7 different doctors before anyone figures out what’s wrong. Their pain is ignored, dismissed, and minimized for YEARS. 😤
So what are the options? 💊
Treatments can help manage symptoms but none fully fix it:
•Pain relievers can help with cramps
•Hormonal therapy can slow tissue growth
•Surgery can remove tissue, but it often grows back
•IVF can help women who want to get pregnant
•Lifestyle changes may reduce symptoms for some
And the cost? Healthcare bills for endo patients can exceed $16,500 in just the first year after diagnosis and many insurance plans don’t cover everything. 💸
Living with this is exhausting. Women with endo are significantly more likely to struggle with depression and anxiety and it shows up in hospital stays, missed work, and lost income. 🧠
This disease costs the US economy between $78 billion and $119 billion every year. 💰
We need more awareness. More research. More belief. 🗣️
If this is your story,
you are not alone. 💜
