At Vale Foot and Ankle Surgery, we always start with conservative care before even talking about surgery. Most of the time, there are plenty of options to try first, and we walk you through what actually makes sense for your situation.

We use tools like X-rays and ultrasound to guide treatment, including targeted injections like steroids or regenerative options such as stem cell products. For a lot of patients, this is the step that finally gets them relief without needing the operating room.

Support changes mechanics. Custom orthotics aren’t just inserts. They redistribute pressure, stabilize the foot, and reduce strain on irritated tissue.

When conservative care works, this is often part of why.

When you have diabetes and start to lose feeling in your feet, things don’t always show up the way you’d expect. A blister, a small cut, even stepping on something at home can go completely unnoticed… and your body might not react with the usual redness or pain right away.

It’s why we keep a close eye on our diabetic patients and recommend regular visits, even when everything feels fine 👣

Rest and ice help. But foot pain is often mechanical.

Weak stabilizers. Tight calves. Poor loading patterns.

At Vale, we spend a lot of time explaining the “why” behind your pain, so the treatment actually makes sense.

Imaging tells a story.

An X-ray might show arthritis. An ultrasound might show tendon damage. Sometimes both.

We don’t guess. We look, confirm, then build a plan that actually fits what we see.

Would you know if you had a cut on your foot?

A lot of diabetic patients don’t. That’s the problem.

Small things can turn serious fast, which is why we don’t just do one visit a year at Vale.

If you have diabetes, feeling “fine” doesn’t mean you’re fine.

Neuropathy can dull sensation. That small blister you don’t feel? It can turn into something bigger.

Routine foot exams at Vale are about catching problems early before they become emergencies.

Dr. Nguyen also served as faculty during the trauma lab, working with pediatric and general orthopedic surgeons on the use of Shark Screws in both trauma and general orthopedic cases.

His focus was on practical application, how and when to use these techniques in real surgical settings.

Always valuable being in a room where surgeons are sharing real experience and learning from each other.

One thing we talk about with patients a lot is that regenerative medicine isn’t one product for everything. Your diagnosis matters. Where the pain is matters. What’s actually happening in the tissue matters.

If a provider is recommending the exact same product over and over again for completely different problems, that’s something I’d pause and think about.
