Summit Physical Therapy, PLLC: Personalized Care for Every Stage of Recovery

When it comes to physical therapy in Oxford, Summit Physical Therapy is committed to helping patients heal and regain their strength with a personalized approach. Sarah Giroux, a dedicated physical therapist at Summit, shared, “We treat everything from pre and post-op treatment to sports injuries. We have a lot of pelvic floor patients. We do pediatrics, TMJ, vestibular issues, concussion recovery, balance training, and more.”

Summit also specializes in dry needling and offers occupational therapy. Excitingly, starting next week, Summit will begin providing lymphedema treatment, as they have a certified specialist joining the team.

Sarah emphasized the clinic’s personal touch. “We’re a small business, not a big chain. We’re here to get you better, not just get everyone in and out as quickly as possible. We like to be one-on-one with our patients, doing manual therapy and guiding them through the stages they need to recover.” Summit also provides home exercises, which are updated as needed and sent home with patients to maintain progress.

In addition to patient care, Summit Physical Therapy actively participates in community events. Sarah shared, “We do the Oxford Christmas Parade every year and participate in other downtown events. We focus on supporting the community in meaningful ways whenever we can.”

First up: DRY NEEDLING

Let’s break it down 👇

Dry needling is a skilled therapy technique performed by our licensed physical therapists to target muscle tightness, trigger points, and pain — using a thin, sterile needle (with no medication injected, hence “dry”).

🎯 What It Can Help With:
✅ Muscle knots & tension
✅ Chronic pain
✅ Sports injuries
✅ Headaches & migraines
✅ Sciatica, low back pain, and more

💡 How It Works:
The needle is gently inserted into a tight or painful muscle, triggering a twitch response that helps the muscle relax and reset. It’s like hitting the “refresh” button on your muscles! 🌀

🙋 Is it the same as acupuncture?

DAY 5: SQUATS

🏋️‍♂️🦵 Squats: The King of Functional Movement!
Whether you're picking something up off the floor or standing up from a chair, you're doing a squat — and the stronger your squat, the better your body moves!

💥 Why We LOVE Squats in PT:
✅ Builds leg and glute strength
✅ Improves balance and joint stability
✅ Supports knee and hip health
✅ Boosts mobility for daily activities
✅ Great for all ages and fitness levels

🧠 How To Do a Basic Bodyweight Squat:
Stand with feet shoulder-width apart
Keep your chest tall and core engaged
Lower your hips like you're sitting in a chair
Knees stay behind your toes
Go as low as your mobility allows — then rise back up
🔁 Start with 2–3 sets of 10–15 reps

🛑 Need a modification?
✔️ Use a chair behind you for support
✔️ Hold onto a countertop
✔️ Don't go too deep — focus on control and comfort

DAY 4: HEEL and TOE walking

🚶‍♀️🦶 Heel & Toe Walking: Small Steps, Big Benefits!

Looking to improve your balance, ankle strength, or walking coordination? Try adding heel and toe walking to your daily routine — a simple yet powerful exercise used in physical therapy for people of all ages!
🔹 Heel Walking
Walk forward slowly on your heels, toes lifted off the ground.
🔹 Toe Walking
Walk forward on your toes, heels off the ground, like a quiet ninja. 🥷

🧠 Why It’s Great:
✅ Strengthens ankle and foot muscles
✅ Improves gait and balance
✅ Helps prevent falls
✅ Builds awareness of proper walking mechanics
✅ Great warm-up or rehab tool

👣 How To Do It:
Walk 10–20 steps on your heels
Then walk 10–20 steps on your toes
Do 2–3 rounds
🛑 Hold onto a wall or countertop if needed for safety

💡 Pro Tip: Focus on posture and slow, controlled steps. It’s harder than it looks — and super effective!

DAY 3: SINGLE LEG BALANCE

🦵⚖️ Can You Balance on One Leg?
If not — don’t worry! It’s a skill you can train, and it’s more important than you might think.

🎯 Single Leg Balance is one of the simplest — and most powerful — ways to improve:
✅ Fall prevention
✅ Ankle and knee stability
✅ Core and hip strength
✅ Athletic performance
✅ Everyday confidence (walking, stairs, uneven ground)

🧠 Try This at Home:
Stand on one leg with:
👣 Bare feet
⏱️ Timer set for 30 seconds
🙌 Eyes open → eyes closed (for a challenge!)
💪 Want to progress? Try reaching with your arms, standing on a pillow, or turning your head side-to-side.

🛑 If you’re wobbly or need to hold on, that’s OK! Use a counter or chair for safety — and practice a little each day.
