So, after more than thirty years in continuous operation, the Urgent Care Clinic of Oxford is closing its doors. Our full time providers--John Lewis, Rachel Sledge, and Will Dabbs MD--are joining a new clinic that the University of Mississippi Medical Center is opening here in Oxford. The clinic will be located in Dr. Kecia Kirk's building at 1397 Belk Blvd, right down the road from our current location. Once the new clinic is up and running, you should be able to have your old medical records forwarded if need be. We would, however, love to have you join us there. The clinic should open on 2 MAR and begin seeing patients on the 6th. The recent well-publicized computer hack against UMMC has been a setback, but I suspect it will not make much difference in the grand scheme.
The phone number will be 601-496-4650. This will be a traditional appointment-based Family Medicine enterprise. However, they should have a certain percentage of slots for same-day appointments when you just wake up sick. We still expect to do plenty of urgent care.
I have seen patients here at the Urgent Care for 23 years. This is the best place in Oxford for meeting people and making friends. I have had the privilege of taking care of literally tens of thousands of you over the decades. That has been such an extraordinary blessing for both me and my family.
This decision has not come lightly, but difficulties with insurance reimbursement coupled with inflation since covid have rendered full-service mom and pop doctor's offices like ours no longer viable. I am proud that we made it so much longer than most.
So, this is an exiting new phase for us here at the old Urgent Care. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your trusting us with your medical needs these past 30+ years. I look forward to more of the same right down the street. This new arrangement gives us access to three MD physicians, four truly superlative Nurse Practitioners, and the amazing resources and referral base afforded by the state's premier teaching hospital. I am stoked about the prospects and look forward to seeing you there.
