National Babe Ruth Day is celebrated annually on April 27 to honor the baseball legend, originating in 1947 when Comissioner Happy Chandler declared it following Ruth's cancer diagnosis. The inaugural event featured 60,000 fans at Yankee Stadium where a frail Ruth gave an emotional speech. The day celebrates his immense impact on baseball, including 714 home runs!

Our very own Mr Victor recounted today that in 1957 when he played his very first little league game in Greenwood MS, he asked his father to buy him a baseball glove as a reward if he hit a home run during the game. On his first time at the plate, Victor hit the ball where it sailed over the fence, and he did indeed get that glove after hitting a big home run! Today at OHR we celebrated by eating Baby Ruth Bars, and having a turn at bat!!!
