Hi all,
Please read this email to the end! We have an urgent job action taking place on Wednesday at the Oxnard Elementary School District and we need maximum union support for our brothers and sisters in need.
Last year, Assemblyman Tony Thurmond sponsored and passed a piece of legislation (AB 2160) that requires school districts to recognize part-time playground assistants (campus assistants) as permanent classified employees and therefore providing them with benefits and collective bargaining. This law goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2019.
In response to this legislation, the Oxnard Elementary School District decided to terminate the employment of all 150+ individuals holding these positions on December 15th with the promise they'll be rehired in January (without the new benefits that they're entitled to).
PLEASE join us in support of these workers this Wednesday, December 10th at 6:45pm (meeting starts at 7pm). We cannot allow this to happen to workers in our community and we most definitely cannot allow these workers to be fired 10 days before Christmas. We must demand that the Oxnard Elementary School District's administration follows the law and respects the work that their employees do. If you have relationships with any of the trustees (Debra Cordes, Ernest Morrison, Veronica Robles-Solis or Monica Madrigal-Lopez...Denis O'Leary has already confirmed that he opposes this action) in the district please reach out before Wednesday. If you have any questions, please feel free to be in touch.
