💭 Thinking of a fun yet simple enrichment activity for seniors? Try sensory bins!

You can make a DIY sensory bin with rice, dried beans, or smooth pebbles. Add items like old photos, sewing supplies, or small toys that add nostalgia. You can also put tools like small scoops and tweezers so the seniors can use them to grab their easter eggs! ✨

According to the National Eye Institute, over half of Americans aged 80 or older either have cataracts or have had surgery for cataracts 👁

Surgery is the only cure for cataracts, so while a senior's vision is still intact, make sure they practice eye-healthy habits every day. It's also recommended to get a dilated eye-exam every two years to detect cataracts early.

💭 Thinking of a simple physical activity for an elderly loved one? Try napkin-folding!

Folding napkins suits seniors with dementia, limited mobility, and other age-related physical and cognitive conditions. If they're up for a challenge, take it up a notch and let them fold napkins origami-style. This can act as cognitive therapy, not to mention give them something fun to do. Bonus points if you join them and turn folding napkins into a form of bonding that creates a stronger sense of purpose and connection! 💜

Seniors, including those with dementia, are definitely capable of learning something new. Introduce them to sensory or tactile activities, like crafting (painting, knitting, crocheting), simple gardening, and more!

Our seniors at Grace Living are regularly exposed to sensory activities like coloring, jigsaw puzzles, and sound therapy. That way, they always discover a new hobby and keep their minds and bodies stimulated. 💜

Fun fact: Areas where many seniors live up age 100 or more are known as "Blue Zones." This unscientific term was first used by author Dan Buettner, who was studying places in the world where people live longer than average.

In the U.S., the Seventh Day Adventist communities in Loma Linda, California are considered Blue Zones. But there might also be other areas that could be Blue Zones around the U.S.

Here at Grace Living, we have seniors over 100 years old, and thriving! We might not be officially known as a Blue Zone, but our care homes are definitely a safe haven to seniors who want to live their best lives, whether in their 80s or their 100s! 💜

Here at Grace Living, we make memory-enhancing activities fun and entertaining. 😄 Frank concentrates on a card-matching game, while Vilma and Kathy are immersed in art. As young adults like to say, they are "healing their inner child." 💜
