Staying on the topic of breast health during October- lets talk about your Sports Bra 👀🙌🏼

Thoughts from a PT 😌

Consider the fit of your bra looking especially at the band. A band that is too snug may cause compression and decrease the ability to expand into the ribcage during breathing. The pelvic floor and diaphragm work together during breathing. Poor breathing mechanics can affect pelvic floor movement causing an imbalance in pressure downward. (Think of the effect of a tight rubber band around the top half of a balloon) 🎈 🫁

Straps matter! If wearing adjustable straps look for indention of skin/tissue, as improper fit could lead to discomfort or neural compression at the trapezius muscle

Functional Tip- If trying on a bra, perform movements you might do in an exercise class like an overhead shoulder press, arm swing similar to running or taking deep breathes, notice if there is any discomfort or movement restrictions 🏃‍♀️🕺💃

There are many types of sports bra styles and levels of compression, it may be worth taking time to reassess your fit or get professionally sized. When your sports bra fits well, without discomfort, you are less distracted during a workout and can focus on reaching your goals! 💪

Fun fact Friday with Ali!

Today’s edition: painful bladder syndrome ⚡️

What is painful bladder syndrome? Painful bladder syndrome is a diagnosis in which what it sounds like- the symptoms include:
-painful urination
-pain with stretch to the bladder (filling)
-urinary urgency and or frequency
-pain with insertion
-sometimes includes vulvar pain or urethral pain

It can be misdiagnosed as Interstitial Cystitis, which typically includes a positive cystoscope for hunner’s lesions (think canker sores on the bladder 😥)

Often, someone is given a strict dietary and fluid restriction regimen and sent on their way. Very often, pain begins after multiple episodes of UTIs, and then symptoms continue without the positive UTI.

However, this is not always the case! Sometimes onset can be seemingly “random”.

The good news: many times, education and pelvic floor therapy can significantly improve symptoms and quality of life!

Muscle and fascia tightness are often components of this diagnosis. We assess and treat this in therapy, and our goal is to give you so much of your life back!

Pain science education AND helpful pain reprocessing is a huge part of the journey, depending on how long symptoms have been.

Did you know this was something we treat? What questions do you have? ⬇️

As always, we’d love to walk with you through your journey. Give us a call or text, or book with link in profile 🫶 417-414-0782

It is breast cancer awareness month, and we are passionate about women’s health and holistic wellness!

Did you know that our breasts are primarily adipose (fat) tissue? Yes! This means that they do not have the same quantity of blood flow as the rest of our body.

Due to this, stagnation can occur in the tissue, which is why it is so important that we are massaging our breast tissue regularly (daily-weekly) for blood and lymphatic flow!

Here’s what to do:
-Keep a bottle of castor oil, sesame seed oil, or Earthley’s Lymphatic cream near by the shower
-Warm the oil in your hands and massage intentionally into the breast tissue for 1-2 minutes each
-Let the water rinse the oil off (no soap)

Follow up with a self exam as taught by your health care practitioner. You may notice your breast tissue feel different during different parts of your cycle, this is normal!

If you notice any breast lumps, make sure to contact your health care practitioner before continuing massage.

If you have had breast cancer and struggle with lymphadema, reach out to our friend .touch for all things lymph!

We are there for you if you have any vaginal dryness, pelvic pain, or any other pelvic floor dysfunction following treatment. 💗

Heads up, friends!

We want to let you know about an upcoming road project that may affect your drive to our The 417 Female between October 5 – November 4.

🚧 MoDOT will be working on the Route CC/J bridge over U.S. 65, and eastbound lanes will be closed for 30 days. Westbound lanes will stay open, but traffic delays are expected in the Ozark area.

👉 If you have an appointment during this time, please plan a little extra travel time. Detours will be clearly marked, but traffic may be heavier than usual.

We appreciate your patience as these improvements are made in our community, and we’ll be here to welcome you when you arrive! 💛

What is Diastasis Recti?

Let’s talk about it, and how can you know if this is the reason for some of your discomfort.

Diastasis Recti is when the two large muscles in your abdomen (the “six-pack” muscles) separate. This is normal to happen during pregnancy as your belly grows in order to make space for baby, but it can also affect women who haven’t had children.

✨ Signs can include:

- A bulge or “doming” in your stomach when you sit up or exercise

- Lower back pain or poor posture

- Core weakness

✨ The good news?

Diastasis Recti can often be improved with gentle, specific core-strengthening exercises and physical therapy.

💗 We see this diagnosis often at The 417 Female, so you’re not alone in this journey!

If you suspect you may have it or have questions, come see one of our amazing PTs.
