I completed my medical education at Emory University in Atlanta, GA (1992), and post-graduate training at Emory Affiliated Hospitals, The University of Virginia, and Vanderbilt University. In addition to my M.D., I have a Masters in Public Health (Emory-1991). Originally from New Jersey I live and work in Springfield, MO. I am married and have three grown children. I am the owner and neurologist at Sharlin Health & Neurology which opened its doors in November 2015. SHN is the only independent neurology practice in the Ozarks. We serve the community by providing a broad range of general neurology services including the best of conventional care, the option of taking a more integrative, holistic approach using the tools of functional medicine. I became interested in Functional Medicine while exploring my own health and performance as a cyclist, runner, and triathlete, and received my training through The Institute for Functional Medicine. It is my pleasure to recommend the new book by Dr. Heather Sandison, entitled Reversing Alzheimer's, The New Toolkit to Improve Cognition and Protect Brain Health. As a mainstream neurologist who is certified in functional medicine, I can confidently say that the news of an Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis and awareness of cognitive decline, is too often met with the response that nothing can be done about it, or that this is normal aging. What I want all my patients to know is that the choice is theirs.
