A heart felt message on this issue from our amazing Nurse Practitioner Brooke Kessinger of Gulf Coast Mobile Medical & Wellness Clinic -
It shouldn't have to come from a man (even though this guy is amazing) but women and women providers have been saying this for years!! The evidence, the literature is there supporting the devastation that occurs with women during peri and menopause is insurmountable!! If men developed micro p*n*s at the age of 50 the treatment would have been established immediately but women having been essentially going through castration (harsh but true) for eternity and we are just now gaining focus on the impact not only physically, psychologically, emotionally, cognitively but also socially, that the cessation of hormones causes. Did you know that the number 1 cause of death in women between the ages of 45-50 is su***de? Think about it 🤔......hormones are nearing all time lows, the woman has developed anxiety, depression, insomnia, weight gain; her kids have grown up, moved out; this should be the time she is reconnecting with her spouse, enjoying her adult life, having fun...except she cant because she is so miserable but cant explain why. So she goes to her doctor who doesnt even mention hormones or completely blows her off if she does and BAM!!! Puts her on a SSRI or SNRI (anti-depressant/anti-anxiety) and tells her to come back in 3 months.....during those 3 months she gains more weight despite diets and exercise, her marriage continues to spiral as does she so she goes back to her P*P who either increases her dosage, adds an adjunct medication or tells her to go find a hobby, work out more, eat better or just accept that this is "normal part of aging". But ITS NOT!!! This is not ok!! Thankfully I feel we are on the right track, finally, unfortunately at the expense of many women. If you are perimenopause or menopause and you do not feel you are being managed appropriately find another provider!!! Its ok to do this bc not being managed appropriately is a disservice to you, your family and your future as a whole!!! Now are there exceptions, ABSOLUTELY, but as a whole addressing what I call "hormone homeostasis" is imperative to a females health just as much as it is with a males. If you are having a hard time finding a provider who will listen then message me. This is not a post about me trying to increase my patient load, this is a post about helping women (and men) find themselves again!! Most of my patients are BHRT patients and I love it!!!! ❤️
