Running Life at My Happy Pace

Running Life at My Happy Pace Here I am, a 40ish year old mom of two little boys. I'm learning what it means to keep life in perspective. Join me on my journey to the next finish line 🏁 Why?

I actually started running back in high school on the cross-country team. I don't know why I really joined the team, but I did. My participation on the team was sporadic, as I spent most of the time sidelined due to stupid knee problems. However when I did run, I figured I was "slow" because I wasn't in the top 10 or anything like that. Back then I could do my best 5k in 26 minutes and a few secon

ds. If I only knew then, that I was actually not that bad, maybe I would have seen things in a different light. Now fast forward 10+ years later and I'm a mommy of 2. Things are *ahem* a little bit different now. I found myself trying to stay healthy, be a good role model for my kids, and also needed a bit of stress relief. I started running again, but this time was different. Because I was doing it for myself. It started out as 15 min walks with the dog and worked it's way up from there. I ran a 5k when my youngest was 5 months old. After that I said I was going to come back to that same race the next year and do the half marathon. And I did. Somehow I squeezed in the training. I knew it was going to take time, what I didn't know, is the journey that all this would entail. I've found running has allowed me to clear my mind to make better decisions, and think about them thoroughly too. And so the running continues......

Another Wednesday night at the track.
Some call it excessive. Some call it extreme.
Why can’t we normalize taking care of your health and making it a priority? Because if you don’t take care of yourself now, someone else is going to end up taking care of you later.
I’m not training to be fast - I’m just training to enjoy what life has ahead of me 💜 Go take a walk with your kids. Get your steps in. Do something. Figure it out. Just make your health a priority. Here’s your PSA for the day

Hot Chocolate 15k in the books! When my mom asked me 3 months ago if I wanted to join, I had no idea where my rehab would be. But I knew if I could run close to 10 miles in January, then I have a decent shot at training for the London Marathon. Today I am 4.5 months post op, and officially back in action. I pulled back around mile 5 because I had to tell myself today was not race day, but just proving to myself there will be more finish lines. I had a great time being out on the course with my family, and seeing so many friends along the way. Felt so happy to finally, and proudly, wear my Rad Rabbit race kit too

THEN and NOW. Gotta love it when iPhone pulls one out of the time capsule. 💕 First pic is from 2018, with Zac doing the kid’s dash after Tyler ran (neon shirt seen observing his brother in the background) - The same 5k Zac just did with last weekend.

It was a grey and gloomy day on the Bay Trail this morning but runcoach.com had 12 miles on the plan, so that’s what we set out to do! There were plenty of geese (and turds 💩) to dodge, but the views were pretty and we nearly did the whole SSF segment. Less than 90 days until the BERLIN-MARATHON!! 🔥🔥 training is only going up from here.

Evening walks. Relaxing. No pressure. Fresh air. Definitely becoming my new favorite thing. 💜 Zac got super excited hearing an owl on our way back home. Summer is just around the corner. 🥰

So today was Stella’s longest run to date, a nice 7 miler after sunrise...And I thought I loved being on the trails. She has me beat, this pup sure knows how to pose. Just watch out for poison oak before you flop down next to my feet for a pic next time, girl.

Our family got a dog this week from , and I couldn’t be any more excited. Today I got to take her out on the trail for the first time ... she was amazing. This pup had so much energy in her, she never held back. After a bit of training, I think she is going to make an awesome partner.

Ending 2020 on a high note. The skies were clear. The trails were empty. The views went on for miles. Just like this run, 2020 had some tough climbs, but we still finished and have something to look back on and move forward from. Happy New Year’s Eve everyone!! Cheers to a great 2021. #2020

What a beautiful morning it was for a nice 7 miler along the bay! I took two additional vacation days this week added to the Thanksgiving holiday and using them for a mental health reset. I need to stop throwing my workouts out the window when my schedule is tough, but I still haven’t been able to figure out the balance with 7am work meetings and now daylight savings ending the day early. I’m always a work in progress, and appreciating when I do get out. Thanks for putting up with my molasses legs! I had lots of fun out there.
