Overdose survivors often face intense stigma that can prevent them from seeking ongoing treatment. Research from the American Journal of Public Health shows that people who survive overdoses are at extremely high risk for future overdoses, yet shame and stigma frequently prevent them from accessing the comprehensive care they need.

Surviving an overdose isn't a failure—it's a second chance. Every person deserves support, not judgment. If you or someone you know has survived an overdose, that survival is truly a second chance. Help is available and recovery is absolutely possible.

Age-related stigma affects both young people and older adults struggling with addiction. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows that adults over 50 represent the fastest-growing segment of people with substance use disorders, yet they often face unique stigma and barriers to treatment.

Similarly, young people may be dismissed as "just experimenting" when they actually need professional help. Addiction doesn't discriminate by age and neither should treatment access. Whether you're 18 or 60, recovery is possible at any stage of life. Age is never a barrier to getting help—stigma shouldn't be either. Visit crossroadstreatmentcenters.com to learn more.
