When the holidays come around, they bring a variety of events, social interactions and challenges. Sometimes the resulting stress has to do with the pressure of how many responsibilities someone has. In other cases, it can be tied to complicated memories of the past or anxiety about family gatherings.

A big thanks to Guess Anti-Bullying Foundation for bringing some holiday cheer to CenterPoint Recovery Center with gloves for the upcoming cold weather.
Our residents spend a great deal of time outdoors walking to recovery meetings and gloves make a huge difference.
CenterPoint is our long- term residential treatment center for men with a substance use disorder.
You can learn more about CenterPoint and all our services for substance use disorders at https://4rbh.org/behavioral-health-counseling-services/substance-abuse-services/center-point/

The holidays can be a joy-filled season, but they can also be stressful and especially challenging for those impacted by mental illness. A NAMI study showed that 64% of people with mental illness report holidays make their conditions worse.

This episode - Pets in Recovery
Sorry - there are no actual pets in the video. As much as we'd love to bring in our dogs, cats, bunnies and hamsters, it's just not very practical!
We do talk about how much pets help in recovery and life in general.

Creative Enterprises, our day program for adults with developmental or intellectual disabilities spent the afternoon putting our "Creative Christmas Club" into action! We are partnering with the HUGS project to make and send cards to US soldiers currently deployed.
The goal of Creative Enterprises is to help participants live as independently as possible. Each day we have activities and teach things like cooking, cleaning, budgeting and more.
We also believe strongly in helping others and so we created the Creative Christmas Club. All season long we are giving back to the community in tons of different ways. From volunteering to bag donated groceries at Family Service Society to creating these Christmas cards, the Creative Christmas Club fosters a sense of pride in our clients and reminds us to all to be grateful for what we have.
You can learn more about Creative Enterprises and other programs on our website at https://4rbh.org/.../creative-enterprises-day-training.../

Last week our Creative Enterprises participants spent the day at Family Service Society hanging donated clothing and bagging food for families in need.
Creative Enterprises is our day program for adults with developmental or intellectual disabilities. The goal of Creative Enterprises is to help participants live as independently as possible and we do this by teaching, through activities, things like budgeting, grocery shopping, laundry, cooking and more.
We also believe strongly in helping others who are in need. This fosters a sense of pride in our clients and serves as a reminder that everyone struggles with one thing or another.
If you'd like to help Family Services Society, they are accepting donations for the holidays.
They are in need of:
Meal-In-A-Can Items (Ravioli, Spaghetti-O’s, etc)
Skillet Helper/Hamburger Helper
Miscellaneous Canned Vegetables
Canned Tuna
Canned/Packaged Chicken

Donations can be dropped off at Family Service Society (827 Joe Clifton Drive) or you can drop off donations for them at Four Rivers Behavioral Health's Creative Enterprises program in downtown Paducah.

What a great day for a surprise! CFSBank stopped by this morning with a donation as part of VUE magazine's Heartfelt Holidays. We couldn't be more thrilled. During the holidays, mental health and substance use issues are especially difficult to handle. Our clients, especially those in residential treatment for substance use disorders, often have nothing but the clothes on their back when they enter treatment. During the holidays, we do our best to help those clients and their families get through the season with a renewed sense of hope. Donations like this allow us to do that. A huge thank you to CFSB for the gift and VUE Magazine for recognizing the valuable services we provide to the community.

Seasonal Affective Disorder is a type of depression that pops up in the winter months when there is not as much daylight and people have fewer activities in general.
This type of depression can zap your energy and make you feel moody.
Seasonal Affective Disorder is a real thing! So, don't brush off that yearly feeling as simply a case of the "winter blues" or a seasonal funk that you have to tough out on your own. Take steps to keep your mood and motivation steady throughout the year.
If you have a substance use disorder, piling on depression can be devastating.
Come by Turning Point for a quick get-together to discuss ways to combat your winter doldrums.
You may also want to talk to one of our therapist about other ways to cope.
