ContinueCARE Hospital at Baptist Health Paducah

ContinueCARE Hospital at Baptist Health Paducah ContinueCARE Hospital at Baptist Health Paducah is a 37-bed Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) located on the 5th floor of Baptist Health Paducah.

We specialize in serving patients with medically complex conditions who need extended recovery times. Welcome to ContinueCARE Hospital at Paducah

ContinueCARE Hospital at Baptist Health Paducah opened in the summer of 2015 as a 37-bed Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) located on the 5th floor of our host hospital, Baptist Health Paducah. As the only LTACH in the area, we enjoy the best of both worlds by being in partnership with a 373-bed acute and skilled-care facility yet maintaining our small hospital atmosphere. Our employees are a dedicated team who work together delivering the best possible care for our patients. Since we have a longer length of stay, our staff has the opportunity to know patients and families. We believe spending quality time makes a difference. And we want to make a difference. As a "hospital-within-a-hospital," we are a separate yet fully licensed acute-care hospital with the ability to provide intensive and complex medical treatment. Our specialty programs are specifically designed to meet the needs of long-term, acute-care patients. Please tour our website to learn more about our hospital, the specialty care we provide, career opportunities, and the benefits of being part of our great team of professionals. The lights of the Christmas tree make the gifts beneath it glow, yet the season's best gift isn't one wrapped in beautiful paper or tied with a pretty bow. Even without any presents under the tree, we receive the greatest gift through the baby who was born to be our Savior. May you experience the gift of His peace and love this Christmas season.

Merry Christmas from ContinueCARE Hospital at Baptist Health Paducah!

The holiday season, while joyful, can often bring its own amount of stress. To better navigate this busy time, protect your mental well-being, and truly enjoy the holidays, focusing on a few core strategies can make all of the difference.

Taking time for yourself is essential and should not be viewed as selfish. Although we may have mountains of things on our to-do list, dedicate a little time each day for self-care. Build in time for exercise, healthy eating, and sleep. Find a little time to unwind with a warm bath at the end of the day or to read even just a few pages of that book you’ve been reading. Making time to decompress and recharge with familiar routines or a few of our favorite things can be one of the best ways to deal with stress during busier times.

Remember to ask for and accept help. If you find yourself overwhelmed or dreading upcoming responsibilities, recognize your limitations and ask for support. If friends or family offer to make an extra dish for your holiday gathering, graciously accept the kindness. If you need someone to do some light house cleaning or even wrap a few gifts, seek out a college student who is home for the holidays with nothing to do. Asking for and accepting help does not make you weak; it shows you are mindful of your capacity.

Finally, don’t lose sight of what really counts. What “really counts” will be different from person to person. For some, it may mean spending quality time with family and friends. For others it may be spending some much-needed downtime at home or focusing on the year ahead. Be present in those moments to truly give yourself the best present this season.

From all of us at ContinueCare Hospital, we wish you a joyous and stress-free holiday!

Are trays of holiday sweets shared in your office each day? Are party-size platters tempting you at every corner? Do you have multiple family gatherings to attend that will feature an array of mouth-watering food? If you want to maintain your weight, waistline, and overall health, knowing what and how much to eat during this wonderful time of the year can help you stay slim, healthy, and active.

Preparing holiday food in your kitchen? Try these tips:
● Replace full-fat (generally 4 percent) sour cream, cottage cheese or yogurt with a lower fat (2 percent) or non-fat substitute. Try using Greek yogurt in dips, creamy salad dressing, mashed potatoes and tacos.
● For meat- or poultry-based stocks, prepare and chill stock in advance. Skim the congealed fat from the top and proceed with your recipe.
● Snacking? Try lower-salt, salt-free, or baked varieties of crackers, nuts and chips.
● Have an air-fryer? Use it as recommended for lower-calorie menu items.

If you are eating out at restaurants or holiday parties, avoid deep-fried appetizers like fried mozzarella or deep-fried crab cakes. Instead, opt for veggies and olives paired with hummus or even a chilled seafood cocktail. Ordering salad? Request dressing on the side and choose a low-calorie vinaigrette. Other calorie-curbing suggestions include sticking with baked chicken or fish entrees and avoiding items that say sauteed, French-fried, creamed, or sauced.

Another tip for eating during this holiday season is to always watch your portion size or the amount of food you put on your plate. Meat options the size of a small deck of cards are typically considered one serving. One slice of bread is one serving. Only 1/2 cup of cooked pasta or potatoes is considered a serving. Loading up your plate with larger portions can lead to more calories being eaten than you intended to consume.

Enjoy the holidays and all of the delicious foods that help to make our celebrations so fun. Simply make good choices and substitutions when you can to avoid feeling sluggish or guilty during this festive season.

Happy holidays and healthy eating from ContinueCare Hospital at Baptist Health Paducah!

What are some of the differences between a Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) and a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)?

● LTACHs serve medically complex patients with multiple co-morbidities, respiratory failure, and/or behavioral complexity or brain injury while SNFs provide long term supportive care.
● LTACHs have intensive care units and telemetry monitoring while SNFs do not.
● The LTACH patient typically stays in the hospital for 20 days or more while SNF patients may remain indefinitely.
● LTACH patients see a doctor daily while SNF patients will see a physician every 30-90 days.
● Both LTACHs and SNFs offer rehabilitation services, although patients in an LTACH must work up to three hours of rehabilitation per day while there is no minimum required for SNF patients.
