When Hayes’ mom, Libby, learned early in her pregnancy that she had almost no amniotic fluid and that Hayes’ chances were slim, the journey ahead seemed impossible.

Born at 33 weeks with multiple congenital anomalies, Hayes spent 7½ months in the Norton Children’s NICU, underwent more than 20 surgeries, and later needed emergency surgery at just over a year old.

But today? He’s thriving. Because at Norton Children’s, our teams — from maternal-fetal medicine to neonatology to pediatric surgery — come together to lean in when families need hope the most.

Veronica Cook’s journey with Norton Healthcare began in 1990, on the administrative side, as part of the student registry program. After becoming a registered nurse 🩺, she joined Norton Children’s Hospital on 4 East, caring for pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant patients. She later transitioned to 7 West (the Addison Jo Blair Cancer Care Center), where she served for 17 years before moving to the Infusion Clinic, the team she still supports today.

Three years ago, Veronica stepped into a leadership role as assistant nurse manager. She says she feels fortunate to work alongside her “sidekick,” Teresa Munson, and is grateful for the strong friendships she’s formed with her fellow nurses. 🤝

Thank you, Veronica, for 35 years of compassion, leadership and care at Norton Children’s. 💙

We’re hosting a Holiday Toy Drive at Norton Children’s Hospital on December 14th!

🧸 Drop off toys from our wishlist such as: gift cards, art supplies, games, stuffed animals, and electronics in the front entrance between 1–3 PM.

All donations will go toward hospital patients and our Snowflake Shop, sponsored by BJ's Wholesale Club, where parents can “shop” for gifts without leaving their child’s side.

Meet Madden Baechle, our Norton Children’s Superhero of the recent Hilltoppers Game! 🌟

Madden was born at 25 weeks, weighing just 1 lb, 10 oz, and spent 152 days in our NICU. Since then, he has overcome incredible challenges, including 13 surgeries and life with hydrocephalus.

Today, Madden is healthy, thriving, and brave... tackling every obstacle head-on. He loves football (big WKU fan + CHIEFS obsessed!), WWE, video games, trampoline time, and hanging out with his siblings, Major and Mila.

We’re so proud to celebrate Madden and his amazing strength! ❤️🏈
