Three-year-old Elaina was getting ready to start “big-girl school.”

Instead, some symptoms piled up and her family was told to go straight to the Norton Children’s Hospital emergency room.

In this story, Elaina’s mom shares the early signs they almost missed, the early days filled with unknowns at Norton Children's Cancer Institute, the comfort of child life specialists and facility dogs, the tears over losing her hair, and the joyful moment she rang the bell, signifying the end of her treatment.

Elaina's mom wrote this for other parents walking the road of a childhood cancer diagnosis, to remind them they are not alone and that hope can grow even in the hardest seasons. 💛

Today, we’re celebrating love, inclusion and a very special little one. 💙

Patients and staff at Norton Children’s Cancer Institute are helping raise awareness for World Down Syndrome Day by rocking their crazy socks. 🧦

Observed each year on March 21, this day represents the third copy of chromosome 21, the genetic difference that makes individuals with Down syndrome unique. It’s a day to advocate for inclusion, celebrate abilities and spread awareness.

💙 Say hello to our friend Jasper!
Jasper has been part of the Norton Children’s Cancer Institute family since coming home from the NICU. He was adopted by Norton Children's Cancer Institute clinic pharmacist Alexis Hamelink, making this team not just his care team, but truly his family.

Jasper was diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth and is cared for by multiple specialties across Norton Children’s. Today is extra special as we celebrate his birthday, just one day before World Down Syndrome Day 🎉

From our patients to our staff, we’re proud to stand together, rock our socks and celebrate amazing kids like Jasper.
