Please let go of the idea that there is a “right way” to practice. Please let go of the belief that there are bodies who “do” yoga better than other bodies. Please let go of the notion that your practice is an outward performance. Please let go of the tendency to make of these teachings another toxic tool of consumerism. Please let go of the metric of linear progress, mastery, or the struggle to “get” somewhere. And, please let go of transmitting any of these myths to others.

Yoga is not a thing we do, but a process and state of becoming-unbecoming, wherein Every. Body. is honored. Your life, as it is, is your entry point. Let go of gripping, grasping, grabbing, forcing, and trying to get somewhere (as though you aren’t somewhere). Less struggle, more grace. I often ask students, “who are you insisting on being at the expense of who you are really?” Relinquish that which distorts or diminishes the world.

Neurologist Rebecca Saxe presented the most beautiful “photo” of the year. It's the image of a MRI captured when a mother kisses her two-month-old son. Lips placed on the toddler's head immediately cause a reaction in his brain. Dopamine is released, which gives the feeling of well-being, but also oxytocin, baptized as the love hormone, because it is responsible for the affection and attachment. Kissing causes a chemical reaction in the toddler's brain. Reduces fear and increases confidence, provokes feelings of affection and attachment, a sign that the baby understood that he is protected. Vasopresin, the "glue" that connects mothers to babies in their first months of life and serotonin, is also released, which regulates the mood.
