What makes this program unique?
It is a 6-week program with two weeks as an asynchronous online course and four weeks as a residential program at the UH Manoa dormitories.
Curriculum Overview
The C.A.N.O.E. (Create and Navigate Opportunities in Education) Summer Pre-Health Academy is a six-week statewide summer intensive program designed to provide skills and resources to help students excel in academia and later graduate from a health professions program. Rising 11th/12th grade students and graduating high school seniors in Hawaii interested in health careers coming from an economically or educationally “disadvantaged” background is encouraged to apply.
* Four-Week Residential Program for the Pre-College experience! Students will have four weeks of uni life at the UH Manoa dormitories on O'ahu.
* College and Career Success Modules
* Problem Based Learning (PBL) Demo (learning process practiced at JABSOM)
* Certification in Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), CPR-First Aid, First Aid for Severe Trauma (FAST), and Youth Mental Health First Aid
* Pre-Health Advising
* Networking Opportunities
Dates/Timeline (Subject to Change)
* Priority Deadline: May 1, 2023
* Online Orientation: June 12, 2023
* Asynchronous Online Modules: June 12 - June 26, 2023 (Weeks 1-2)
* UH Manoa Residential Program: July 5 - July 24, 2023 (Weeks 3-6)
* Final Portfolio Online Submission: August 13, 2023
Cost
* There is NO admissions fee or tuition to enroll.
* FULL SCHOLARSHIP for meal and boarding (housing at UH Manoa)
* $500 stipend upon the successful completion of the program
