Flying a kite feels like borrowing a small piece of freedom. You wait for the right wind, not too strong, not too weak, and then, for a moment, everything aligns—the lift, the line, your hands—and the kite rises. It climbs higher than you expected, steady and graceful, as if it belongs there. In those moments, it’s easy to believe that soaring is natural, that staying aloft is simply a matter of holding on.

But the wind shifts. It always does. A gust pulls too hard, or dies too quickly, and the kite falters. Sometimes the design itself wasn’t right for the sky you found—too heavy, too fragile, too stubborn to adapt. You adjust, you run, you try again, but not every flight can be saved.

Yet each time you lift the kite again, something in you lifts with it. Hope returns on the same unseen currents. There is a quiet grace in the trying—in the willingness to stand in the open, to trust the wind once more. And in that effort, it feels as though God’s grace is gently conferred upon us, not in guaranteed flight, but in the courage to try again, to believe again, to rise again.

The chance to soar is real, but it is never permanent. The wind will change, the string will slacken, and eventually the kite returns to earth. What matters is that it flew at all—and that each time we send it skyward, we are renewed, touched by something greater, and reminded that even brief flight can be enough.
