Today, on National Nurses Day, we’re holding space to honor the quiet strength, compassion, and unwavering presence of nurses 🩵🩺👑
The words below beautifully capture what so many of us have witnessed firsthand—that nursing is more than a profession. It’s a promise. A steady hand in uncertain moments. A voice of comfort when it’s needed most.
To our incredible CareFirstNY nurses: thank you for the way you show up each and every day—holding hands, offering guidance, and bringing calm and reassurance when things feel hardest. Your care leaves a lasting imprint on the lives of the patients and families you serve, and we are so grateful that you are part of our team 💙💛🧡

Once, the Nurse’s Cap Was a Crown
Once, the nurse’s cap was more than cloth.
It was a crown—quiet, simple, proud.
A sign of courage, care, and strength.
Each fold held meaning:
hands that held trembling lives,
eyes that stayed steady in pain,
hearts that did not turn away.
Inside it lived stories
teachers guiding unsure hands,
old wisdom passed down,
silent prayers in the night.
It was soft strength.
Quiet promise.
A vow without words:
“I will stay. I will care. I will not leave.”
Today, the caps are gone.
Replaced by scrubs and change.
But the meaning is still here.
You feel it in the halls
in careful steps,
in gentle voices,
in hands that never let go too soon.
The crown is not gone.
It lives in what nurses do.
To care is still the crown they wear.
