Just updating this page with more info while my website is currently a work in progress. Still doula-ing! Still birth assisting (ocasionally)! Mostly grandmothering with the addition of our grandson born mid February. I had the honor and pleasure of supporting my daughter and son-in-law through this pregnancy and birth as well as the birth of their daughter in 2022. To “doula” your own daughter is such a dream come true!! Super grateful to be asked twice!! Craig and I have returned to parenting with the addition of a foster care teen. Life is full and good….and exhausting! To God be the glory!

I currently have plenty of availability for doula clients for May and going forward. I support clients who have Florida Medicaid and self-pay clients. Most Medicaid plans cover doula support, usually 5ish care visits (prenatal & postpartum visits) and labor & delivery. I charge $1000 for my self-pay clients, offering 2-3 prenatal visits, labor & birth, and 1 postpartum visit. I also offer childbirth education classes, breastfeeding classes, and newborn care classes to families with Sunshine Health Medicaid at no charge.

All mommas are welcome to join us for Motherhood Support Circle twice a month at Community Birth & Wellness center in Eustis. Excited to be at this event with the crew from Lake County Birth Resources! We have a shade tent with all the supplies needed for changing a diaper, feeding your baby, or just sitting in front of a fan for a rest. We have cold water and applesauce pouches or free! Bonus - chat with doulas and other birth professionals about birth support in Lake County. We have doulas who take Medicaid!

Beyond excited to be part of birthing this group!! The Lake County Birth Resources page was started by a collective of local birth workers to support birthing families in Lake County!!! We have doulas, midwives, lactation specialists, birth photographers and more!!!

Melissa Yates is a professionally trained and certified (DONA & ProDoula) birth doula, professionally trained postpartum doula (DONA), and graduate of the InJoy Birth Doula Mentorship program. She is a former Birth Assistant for Tree of Life Birth & Gynecology and current Birth Assistant at Community Birth and Wellness Center. (A Birth Assistant provides an extra pair of hand to assist the midwife during labor, birth, and immediate postpartum.)

“In 2019, after many years as a homeschooling mum, I knew I needed a new direction. All 3 of my children were off doing their own things in the world, and I needed to figure out what would keep me busy and give me purpose for this next phase of life. I have always been a huge birth nerd and loved geeking out on all things birth related. A friend and fellow doula suggest that I train as a doula, and I’m so glad I did! Five years later, I have supported many, many families prenatally, during labor and birth, and in the postpartum period.”

Melissa is passionate about serving local families in the Lake County area. She takes private pay clients and is part of The Doula Network, who provide doulas for families with Medicaid. If you have Sunshine Health or UHC, Medicaid pays for your doula support. Melissa also offers childbirth education, lactation counseling (from July ‘24), and Newborn 101 classes to families with Sunshine Health.
