Today, we proudly honor Juneteenth — a day that marks liberation, resistance, and the ongoing pursuit of justice for Black communities.

As a Black female-owned practice, Serenity stands on the shoulders of those who came before us — those who fought for freedom, for dignity, and for the right to dream beyond survival. We are here because of them. We celebrate today not only in remembrance, but in gratitude and commitment to the work of healing and liberation.

Every spring, we carve out time to reconnect as a team and celebrate the fresh start that comes with the season—and the fact that we all survived another Chicago winter!

This year, we did Paint & Sip at Bottles & Bottega in downtown Arlington Heights. It was such a fun and relaxed night. We laughed, we painted (some of us better than others 😄), and we just enjoyed being together outside of the workday.

These kinds of moments keep us bonded and remind us why we do what we do. When we take time to recharge and show up for each other, we’re better able to show up for our clients too.

April is Autism Awareness Month!

At Serenity Counseling and Wellness, we are proud to stand with the Red Instead movement.

You may notice we’re not using the puzzle piece imagery often associated with autism awareness. That’s intentional. The puzzle piece has historically represented autism as something mysterious or incomplete. But autistic individuals are not puzzles to be solved — they are whole, capable people who deserve acceptance, understanding, and support.

The Red Instead movement shifts the focus from awareness to acceptance — from changing autistic people to embracing them as they are. This movement is led by the autistic community and calls for neurodiversity-affirming care, inclusive spaces, and dignity for all.

This month, and every month, we honor the voices of autistic individuals and commit to providing affirming, trauma-informed support. Join us in celebrating neurodiversity by learning from autistic advocates, rejecting harmful stereotypes, and fostering environments where every person can thrive.
