Fermented foods have gained a lot of attention in recent years—and for good reason! They offer a wide range of health benefits, especially when it comes to supporting gut health. More and more research is highlighting the strong connection between a healthy gut and overall well-being.
Unfortunately, the balance of beneficial microbes in our digestive system can easily be disrupted by factors like highly processed foods, frequent medication use, and a lack of fresh fruits and vegetables. That’s why, whenever someone asks me about supplements, I always start by looking at their diet first.
Personally, I like to begin my mornings with something fermented paired with a source of protein. This combination helps me feel fuller longer and keeps my blood sugar levels more stable throughout the day. Lately, my go-to has been kimchi—the capsicum and garlic offer an extra layer of support for my immune system and digestion. If that feels a little too adventurous, sauerkraut is a great, milder alternative. I tend to avoid kombucha first thing in the morning due to its sugar content.
