Osteoarthritis affects millions worldwide, often causing chronic pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility as joint cartilage wears down over time.
Kuruvilla Oncology is introducing Low Dose Photon Irradiation for selected patients with painful arthritis, beginning in the New Year at the Cancer Center of Putnam. This treatment focuses on reducing inflammation—not destroying tissue—and has shown 60–90% response rates in patients with Kellgren-Lawrence Stage 2–3 arthritis, with some Stage IV patients also benefiting.
Low-dose radiation therapy has been presented at the 2025 Fall Meeting of the American Society of Therapeutic Oncology, endorsed by the American Rheumatology Association, and is also offered locally at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville. Treatments are quick, well-tolerated, and covered by Medicare and most insurers.
