Divine Island Design is a local business in Big Pine Key, Florida that was started in 2017. The owners are Braxton & Erica Frankenbery. The Florida Keys was our paradise for over 10 years as we vacationed in the Marathon area. In February 2016, we moved from Columbus, Ohio to Big Pine Key. We left our home, family and Erica left her job as a microbiologist to move to paradise. We knew God had a plan for us because all we needed was provided. Erica started working as a bank teller. Braxton continues to work as a project manager in telecom. However, a piece still seemed to be missing. We used Braxton’s hobby of woodworking and Erica’s hobby of socializing to start Divine Island Design. With almost 20 years of woodworking experience, we use our talents and share them with the rest of the Florida Keys. Braxton’s beautiful projects and Erica’s skill for networking has allowed us to start our dream business. Our store is located at 29928 Overseas Highway, Big Pine Key, FL 33043. We are next to Shell gas station. You can watch us turn pens and rings in the store! We are open 7 days a week!

Just throwing this out here. I have had a couple people ask me to make a pen copying another makers design. I will not do this and shame on them for asking. If you don’t like the original maker or can’t wait on their commission list, then find a different pen. Many of us that have been around for a while know the work it takes to build a brand and a unique pen design. While many of our basic pens may look the same, there are some designs that are very unique and most of the time we have spent many hours, sometimes days, creating our “perfect” pen design. To see it copied by someone else is not a good feeling and very disheartening. I love doing commissions and appreciate the support from all our customers but please keep this in mind when asking for a custom order. Thank you all! Hope to see you soon at the Orlando Pen Show. The countdown is on for the and I am making that final push to get ready. Just finished up these five wood body fountain pens. All the woods have been stabilized and some dyed to create some beautiful pieces. Complimentary resins for the section, bands and finials. All fitters for Bock no. 6 nibs. We are back! The shop is fully operational and I have a couple pens in progress. The website and Etsy store are open with our new purple color scheme. If you need pens, casting pigments, glitters, etc. it is all there. I look forward to seeing you this summer at a pen show. I will be at Miami, DC and Orlando for sure and who knows where else. We thank you all for your patience and support during our move.

Well the shop is about 90% done and organized, just need to do the laser area and my tool boxes. I am hopeful to start making pens here in the next day or so. Should also have our website and Etsy store back up and operational by this weekend. I am making sure pigment inventory is caught up before it is. Thank you all for your love and support the last couple of months as we make the transition in our new home here in Ohio.

This last year has been very difficult for us and today has been the hardest day of them all as we said goodbye to our baby, Billy. He put up a fight with cancer over the last few months but took a turn for the worse this weekend. We have a big void in our hearts. Because of this and my mental state right now I will no longer be at the Triangle Pen Show in Raleigh next week. We are just finally getting settled into our house here in Ohio and haven’t even touched the pen shop yet. With all this I am not in a pen making mood but hopefully will get there. We appreciate all your love and support over these last few months. God bless!

Well the pen shop is now in Ohio. I fly back to Florida today and move the rest of the house in a couple weeks. It will take some time to get everything cleaned up, organized and setup so please be patient with us. I hope to be up and running by mid- May so I can start preparing for the at the beginning of June. I will keep you posted of progress. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers on our move. Firstly, I want to say thank you for everyone who came out and supported us at the Atlanta Pen Show this past weekend. It’s always great to see everyone and see our customers, old and new, face to face. Secondly, our plan right now is to move back to Ohio the first week of May, which is now less than a month away. That being said we will be shutting down our website and Etsy store this Saturday, April 12th for an undetermined amount of time while we pack, move and unpack. So if you need a pen, pigments, glitters, etc. order by this Friday. We apologize for the inconvenience but would appreciate all your positive thoughts and prayers as we make the move and this transition. We are planning to be back up and running before the Triangle Pen Show in Raleigh at the beginning of June. Thank you all and God bless! - Brax

Doing some prep for the that’s just a week away. These 8 Spes models are all made with our glitter blanks, have a stainless steel palm tree roll stop and fitted for Bock no. 6 nibs. Unfortunately I will be there by myself as Erica is still unable to travel. I ask for continued thoughts and prayers for her as she still deals with nerve and back issues. I finally got clearance to resume normal activities! I haven’t been able to turn since before Christmas because of my heart issues. So to celebrate I made myself a pen. This has a solid black body and section fitted with a big Bock no. 8 steel nib. The main portion of the cap is a segmented blank with ebony, blue dyed maple burl and 70s dodge prototype fordite that was made a few years ago by a friend. The pen has all stainless steel hardware and accents. Ah it’s so good to be back making! You all take care of yourself and thank you for all the positive thoughts and prayers! God bless! - Brax

We knew God had a plan for our family because we were provided for during the transition. Braxton continues to work as a project manager in telecom. Erica had a job in banking before moving to the construction industry. However, there was something still incomplete in our lives.
