In the present crisis over the virus, many people are reacting to the magnitude of changes with fear, anxiety and depression. With “stay-at-home” mandates, the concerns over loss of financial security as well as enhanced health worries are magnified. We are isolated from friends and coworkers and our usual routines have been disrupted, leaving us with a new “togetherness”. Family relationships have been met with challenges, bringing new opportunities for closeness but also creating situations with work-at-home and home schooling of children which often are fraught with tensions and conflict. Crises can signify “danger” or “opportunity”.

The outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) may be stressful for people. Fear and anxiety about a disease can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and children.

Stress during an infectious disease outbreak can include
