Did you know that about 1.1 million people in the United States are living with Parkinson's disease (PD)? 🌷

🧠 This progressive brain disorder is perhaps most well known for causing tremors, but other symptoms include loss of vocal volume, sleep disruptions, stiffness, and balance issues, among others.

What does Occupational Therapy look like❓

It looks like someone practicing how to button a shirt again. 👔 Rebuilding the strength and dexterity to hold a coffee cup. ☕ Rehearsing the motions to prepare a simple meal and learning to use a reacher to safely pick things up without bending 🫳.

During Occupational Therapy Month, we’re celebrating the amazing therapists who help our rehab patients rebuild confidence, independence, and the skills that make daily life meaningful. 🫶

April is Volunteer Month, and we are celebrating the amazing people of all ages who share their time with our residents. From calling bingo to painting nails 💅, performing music 🎵 to simply sitting and chatting, our volunteers bring an essential joy and connection to our community.

Jarrett came to The Gardens Court for rehabilitation after a hospital stay and took part in physical and occupational therapies to get back to his prior level of function. He is back up and walking, able to get around, and better able to take care of himself. 👍

Bravo to Pamela, who recently completed her rehabilitation with us! 🎉

Pamela came to The Gardens Court for physical and occupational therapies after fracturing her femur. When she arrived, she was unable to walk, get in and out of bed, balance while standing or dress herself. Now she is up and walking again, balancing better and independent in her dressing and hygiene skills. 👍

💬 "I really enjoyed coming to therapy every day," Pamela said. "The therapists were amazing, and I can now get around and take care of myself because of them."
