If cold symptoms are starting to show up, home remedies may work better than medicines as the first line of treatment. Make sure your child is staying hydrated. Use of a humidifier helps. Saline nose spray or drops for runny or blocked nose. Use a wet cotton swab to get rid of sticky mucus around nose. For children 1 year and older, 2 to 5 ml of honey helps with coughing. Only if needed for pain or fever, acetaminophen or ibuprofen medication.
Strongly consider the Flu Shot as prevention of influenza. If cold symptoms are bothering or worsening, contact your pediatrician to address any possible complications!

​Most of the time, children don’t need antibiotics to treat a respiratory illness. In fact, antibiotics can do more harm than good.
