📊 Protein: RDA vs. Optimal

Most people think the RDA (0.8 g/kg/day) is enough protein.
👉 Reality: that’s just the minimum to avoid deficiency — not what’s optimal for health, strength, and longevity.

🔑 What the data show:

RDA was based on outdated studies in young sedentary men.

Doesn’t account for older adults, pregnancy, recovery, or active individuals.

Optimal intake = ~1.6–2.2 g/kg/day (0.8–1.0 g/lb/day).

Higher protein = more muscle, better glucose control, lower risk of frailty & chronic disease.

🚫 Myths busted:

“Too much protein harms kidneys” → no evidence in healthy humans, even at high intakes.

“Protein restriction improves health” → weak, flawed data; often causes muscle loss.

✅ Takeaway:
The RDA is the floor, not the goal. If you want to age well, preserve muscle, and thrive — aim for at least double the RDA.

🧠✨ New research shows women with Alzheimer’s have lower levels of healthy unsaturated fats (like omega-3s) and higher levels of saturated fats compared to women without the disease.

⚡️ This difference wasn’t seen in men — highlighting that Alzheimer’s may affect women’s brains differently.

💡 Eating brain-healthy fats (think salmon, walnuts, chia, flax) could be especially important for women’s cognitive health.
