A Subtle Message: The Alzheimer's Card

A Subtle Message: The Alzheimer's Card The discreet way to let others know your loved one has Alzheimer's while maintaining their dignity. What Is The Alzheimer's Card? How Was It Inspired?

It's a sturdy plastic card, much like a credit card. Discreetly held up or handed to a server, retailer, receptionist or the general public. Once having read the message: "Please Be Patient, My Loved One Has Alzheimer's. " In my experience the situation goes from tense and stressful, to one of understanding and kindness. It is a quick and simple solution to help others understand a difficult situation without compromising the dignity of your loved one. I found it to be a way to "say" what needed to be said, without embarrassing the caregiver or worse humiliating the victim of the disease. When my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's we were taken by surprise. We had attributed her symptoms to everything BUT Alzheimer's. As time progressed, we saw the disease take hold of her once strong mind. Now, it feels like I just want to make excuses for why she's confused, upset or yelling when we are out. If only there were a way to help maintain her dignity, while lessening our stress and making others aware that this isn't my mother, it's the disease. I created these cards to help others facing the many challenges of having someone with Alzheimer's interacting with the general public. I just discreetly hand this card to any individual that may need a little help understanding the actions of my mother. It is perfect for daily use in a mired of situations with the general public and person to person interactions.
