❄️ Snow in Florida?! ❄️

This week was all about winter and snow science, and our kids were all in! Since this is about the only snow Florida kids ever get, we made it a full-on learning experience, and they even got to take it home! ☃️😉

Our students explored how snow is made, what happens as it melts, and learned fun facts about the snow cycle and winter weather. There were big reactions, curious questions, and lots of hands-on experimenting — the best kind of learning!

Watching them investigate, test ideas, and experience “snow” together was such a highlight of the week. Swipe through to see all the snowy fun and science in action! 💙

Our classrooms have been buzzing with laughter, learning, and so much fun, and we are so proud of how wonderfully all of our kids and teachers have settled in. 🌟 From creative projects to playful discoveries, every corner of our Haven has been full of smiles! 😄

🚨Moving right along with our teacher intros ...

We’re so excited to introduce Mrs. Alena, our brand new and so very amazing Preschool/Kindergarten teacher! 💫 Fun fact—Alena is actually Mrs. Molly’s cousin, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have her joining our Homeschool Haven family!

With a background in both Elementary Education and Montessori Education, Alena knows how to mix just the right amount of structure with creativity and child-led fun. She’s all about letting kids be kids while supporting each child’s unique growth and helping a genuine love of learning grow naturally through play, connection, and everyday moments.

Alena’s classroom is cozy, happy, and full of hands-on fun, gentle routines, and plenty of room for curiosity (and wiggles!). Students and parents equally will love her calm, caring energy and the way she truly gets each child—celebrating their personalities, cheering on their independence, and making everyone feel right at home. 💛

When she’s not teaching, Alena enjoys traveling with her wonderful husband and her two fur pups 🐾—and she loves sharing those adventures with her students as a way to build connection and spark curiosity.

Alena is extremely excited about the journey ahead and is looking forward to a year filled with learning, growth, laughter, and so much fun. We can’t wait for our youngest learners to thrive with her this year! 🌈✨

🎲 Holiday Game Designers in Creator Academy 🎲

As part of our Holidays Around the World learning, students explored how games and play are a universal way people celebrate, connect, and spend time together during holidays across different cultures. To bring that idea to life, they became game designers, creating holiday-inspired games that could be played by kids anywhere in the world.

Students used themes like winter, celebration, kindness, and togetherness to design game boards, write rules, and test their creations. Along the way, they practiced creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and clear communication.

A fun, meaningful way to connect global traditions to hands-on learning — and the kids loved every minute 🌍✨

Last semester, our learners took a festive journey around the world 🌍 as we explored holidays and traditions throughout the month of December. One of our favorite days was learning about the origin and history of gingerbread houses—and the learning went far beyond sweets!

Students discovered how gingerbread dates back to medieval Europe, how it was used in celebrations, and how gingerbread houses became popular through folklore and cultural traditions. Instead of building with real gingerbread, students created their own gingerbread-style houses using brown craft houses, giving them the freedom to design, decorate, and personalize their structures while focusing on creativity and learning.

This activity beautifully connected history, culture, art, and storytelling. It encouraged imagination, design thinking, and hands-on engagement—proving once again that meaningful learning doesn’t have to involve sugar to be sweet 💛🏠

🌟 Welcome Back, Mrs. Courtney! 🌟

We are so excited to welcome Mrs. Courtney back for another wonderful semester at The Homeschool Haven! She has quickly become such a loved part of our community, and we’re thrilled to have her returning to our Elementary classrooms again this spring.

Mrs. Courtney is known for being incredibly kind, fun, and approachable, and our students absolutely adore her. She has a natural way of making kids feel comfortable, valued, and excited to learn—and her classroom is always full of smiles, laughter, and meaningful moments.

Originally from Minnesota, Mrs. Courtney moved to Florida with her husband, their three children, and their dog, Millie. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Bemidji State University and brings both a lot of experience and even more heart into everything she does. Her passion for creating a positive, engaging learning environment truly shines through each day.

When she’s not teaching, Mrs. Courtney enjoys running, biking, beach days, and cheering on her kids at soccer games and running events—a reflection of the energy and warmth she brings into the classroom as well.

We are so thankful to have Mrs. Courtney returning for another year and can’t wait to see the continued growth, joy, and connections she brings to our students. 💛📚

🌸 Only ONE more week until the first day of Spring Semester 2026! 🌸

We’ve missed our Homeschool Haven families so much and are so excited to be back together for another semester full of learning, creativity, and awesome activities!

What a SNAP-tastic way to wrap up our fall semester! 🐊💚

Our final field trip to the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park was an all-out chomp-ion of a day — such a great turnout, tons of smiles, and memories we’ll be gator-ing about for a long time. 😄

We are so thankful for our amazing families and students who made this semester truly jaw-dropping in the best way.

What an incredible way to close out the fall — we’ll be back after the break, ready for more adventures! 🐊✨ There’s still time to join us for adventures just like this this coming spring — reach out today!
