Welcome to Mindful Moments with Maddi, a safe space that promotes healing, growth, and self-love. My name is Maddi Schmelz and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. Trying to manage daily responsibilities, keep up with work and school, have a social life, make time for self-care, all while trying to figure out your future (no pressure or anything). This can feel so overwhelming to where you are struggling with focus and motivation, and you're starting to overthink EVERYTHING! You’re probably questioning yourself, your abilities, and whether you’ll be able to handle the responsibilities of adulthood. The truth? It’s totally natural to feel overwhelmed, scared, and to doubt yourself. Adulting is hard, and I can help you through it. I help teens, young adults and college students transition into adulthood with confidence. Working with me means you get to show up exactly as you are. You can wear sweats or heels, use a journal to take notes, bring snacks or a blanket, or anything in between. Together we will talk, laugh, cry, and celebrate as you grow into the best version of you. You don’t have to keep struggling by yourself and putting on a brave face for everyone else. Today one of my clients didn't show up. So I spent the hour in my office, listening to Disney music and coloring in my Gilmore Girls coloring book.

Reminder that we don't always have to fill those empty spaces with "productive" things like work or cleaning. Sometimes the best use of those moments is allowing yourself to do something fun or relaxing, like coloring.

In case you needed a little reminder today... You are enough exactly as you are. No proof required. 👏

We often create stories in our mind that tell us we have to do certain things in order to be good enough... like getting the entire to-do list done, or earning straight A's, or getting up to our first alarm of the day. 😅

The truth is, we are good enough exactly as we are. Sometimes we just need a little reminder to break free from those negative thought spirals. 🥰

I'm sure by now you've heard the term "adulting". While there are soooo many different definitions and interpretations of the word, this one seems to capture it best (in my opinion). 🧐

Adulting: to carry out one or more of the duties and responsibilities expected of a grown up.

So why is adulting so important? Well, because many of us are held to the standard of knowing how to adult, without actually being taught the skills to do so. 🙃

You might be thinking, Ok, so how the heck am I supposed to adult when I don't know how, and we all know there isn't a manual for it? Furthermore, how am I supposed to feel confident in my ability to adult if I don't know what I'm doing half the time and I really am just trying to get through the day at this point? 🤯

I know how exhausting it can be to try and balance all the adulting things and feeling overwhelmed with the thoughts telling you that you're not doing enough. 😵‍ (Spoiler alert.... you are doing enough, and you are enough 💙)

Reminder to all my busy bees out there, to take a moment to pause today. 🐝

You can pause for 30 seconds, 5 minutes, a whole hour, whatever you have time for. ⏰

During your pause, I encourage you to check in with yourself to see how you're feeling and what you need. You might need a snack, water, to stretch your legs, rest your eyes, to connect with someone, to pet your dog, or even just simply to breathe. 😮‍💨

These pauses can be so powerful in allowing us a time to step away from work, school, chores, or the to-do list, even if only for a few minutes. 💚

Keep going. Keep practicing. Keep showing up for yourself. 🌻

So many of us want to feel confident in our own skin, but find ourselves struggling with self-doubt, overthinking, and beliefs that we're not good enough. The journey to feeling confident can be a long one, and you're worth every ounce of effort. 🙏

Throughout your life you may have periods of time where you do feel confident, or areas of your life you feel confident in, while other areas you feel overwhelmed and weighed down. 😅

Building confidence can look different for every one, so let's focus on the process, and you get to fill in the blanks with whatever interests you. 👏

Ideas for building self-confidence:
💜Express Yourself - Schedule a photo shoot or bo***ir session, change up your hair with dye, a new cut, or a new style, or change up that wardrobe into outfits that make you feel good about yourself when you put them on.

💜Try Something New - Take a new class for cooking, dance, art, or workout, start a new routine for your morning, evening, or self-care, plan a day and mark off something from our bucket-list.

💜Set Some Goals - Identify what you want to focus on, and then turn that into a goal for your week or month. Incorporate a new activity XX amount of days per week, get up XX minutes earlier....

💜Be Kind To Yourself - You deserve all the love, treats, and kindness. So don't forget to treat yourself often and celebrate every victory along your journey. For more encouragement, write positive affirmations on your mirror or post-it notes to read while you get ready for your day.

Our Story

Windows of Hope Counseling Center was founded for the purpose of providing effective and affordable counseling for the community. It is our belief that all families and individuals deserve to be nurtured and supported in their healing process; therefore, our fees are based on a sliding scale according to income and ability to pay. We realize that one family may come to us needing both individual and couples counseling. We are fortunate to have many counselors on staff enabling us to meet everyone’s needs at one center. Our counselors work with families and individuals experiencing marital conflict, childhood and teen difficulties and disorders, family blending, addiction and substance use, divorce, grief and loss, anxiety, and depression through education and therapeutic intervention. We recognize that life situations can get worse before they get better. The counselors at Windows of Hope are here to honor that process while we establish realistic goals and commitments for our clients. Creative therapeutic techniques are used to help families deal with difficult life problems. It is our hope and desire to help guide clients into a healthier and happier life situation.
