Changing Tides Counseling

Changing Tides Counseling If you are feeling depressed, anxious, confused, and sad or distressed, If you are experiencing frustration, anger, I can help.

Finding a therapist or counselor with an approach that is right for you is a process that can be both rewarding and challenging. I offer a safe environment where you can be yourself and explore the areas that bring you to therapy or counseling now. I hope that the information on my website helps you in your search. If you have any questions or would like to make an appointment, please email me at Lauri@Changingtidesfl.com or call me at (786) 423-6787 to schedule your FREE 15 minute phone consultation. As a solution-focused therapist, my approach is client-centered and my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. Psychotherapy is an opportunity to slow down and pay attention to what’s really going on inside of you — in other words, you’ll have the chance to listen to the answers within. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. I believe that life’s experiences can negatively affect our view of the world, altering our ability to experience joy and success in our lives. By examining the validity of your current belief system and accepting a healthier view of oneself; life changing shifts in consciousness can occur. As you move toward a more balanced and healthy view of yourself and the world, you become capable of having more fulfilling relationships. When you are troubled and can’t figure out what is in the way of achieving your goals, counseling can really be the best medicine. Whether it's a relationship disappointment, career plans that have stalled, new parent challenges, the shock of retirement, painful emotions that have no obvious source, repetitive self-defeating behaviors or use of substances in a harmful way, talking with someone trained to help you make sense of things, can help you exert greater control over your actions, choices and decisions. If you are feeling depressed, anxious, confused, and sad or distressed, I can help. If you are experiencing frustration, anger and disillusionment in your relationship(s), let's begin the process to get your life and relationship(s) flowing successfully. What you can expect to learn during the course of psychotherapy

Clarify wants, needs and desires for enacting positive changes
A sense of inner calm and self-acceptance to cultivate more honest, satisfying relationships
Greater feelings of empowerment, self-awareness and means of navigating your life. Cope effectively with the ups and downs of life
Grieve the past to live more fully in the present

Therapy is not a cookie-cutter process. It may be short-term or long-term; weekly or more than once a week; one-to-one or in a group, but it requires a collaborative effort between you and I, to determine the most relevant approach for you.

September is National Su***de Prevention Month💙

Suicidal thoughts can look or sound differently depending on the person and situation. Those feelings can be heavy, but they don’t have to be carried alone.

If a loved one shares these thoughts, a powerful way to help is to listen with care, offer support without judgement, and remind them that they are not alone.

If you or someone you know is struggling, dial 988 for the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline, which is a free and confidential support available 24/7.

Today is National Grief Awareness Day, which is a reminder that grief touches all of us, yet looks different for everyone.

Grief can show up in many different ways. There is no “right” way to grieve, and no set timeline. What matters is that no one has to go through this alone. If you know someone who is grieving, your compassion, patience, and presence can make a world of difference💜.

Unhealed Trauma Shapes Every Decision—Especially in Divorce

If you’ve lived through trauma, abuse, or distress, your decisions—from small everyday choices to major life events—are often driven by emotion, not logic. That’s not weakness—it’s a survival response.

But when you’re going through a divorce and you have children, this emotional decision-making can unintentionally impact them. Kids feel your tension, absorb your stress, and often take on emotional roles they’re not meant to carry.

Unresolved trauma can show up as overreacting, defensiveness, or needing control. It can turn co-parenting into a battlefield instead of a shared mission. And even if your child doesn’t know your history, they will feel its effects if it’s left unaddressed.

The good news? With awareness and support, you can begin to heal. When you take time to work through your pain, you stop passing it down—and give your child the gift of emotional stability during one of the hardest transitions of their life.

You don’t have to stay stuck in your trauma. Healing is possible — and it starts with believing you deserve peace. ...
