Desert Healthcare District is a local government agency committed to health in the Coachella Valley.

We believe every resident in our District deserves access to health education, disease prevention and comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services, and the opportunity to participate in District matters through access and input to the board. We support positive health system change via incorporating best-practice methodologies where possible; encouraging accurate outcome measurement by benchmarking, monitoring and evaluation; supporting innovative new practices and programs; and fostering collaboration and partnerships.

Fernando Gutierrez | Mosquito Risks, Prevention, and Community Protection in Coachella Valley

In this episode of the Healthy Desert Healthy You podcast, host Will Dean sits down with Fernando Gutierrez, Community Engagement Specialist with the Coachella Valley Mosquito And Vector Control District. Fernando explains the district’s nearly 100-year mission to monitor and control vectors — mosquitoes, rodents, fire ants, and more — that pose health risks to Coachella Valley residents. He discusses the region’s unusually active mosquito season, the spread of invasive Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, and the diseases they can transmit, including West Nile virus and St. Louis encephalitis. Fernando also highlights prevention strategies, the importance of eliminating standing water, and how residents can request services. Plus, he previews innovative district programs such as drone-assisted inspections and the sterile insect technique aimed at long-term mosquito control.

Samantha Shapiro | Building Community and Water Resilience with an Environmental Scientist

The Desert Healthcare District, Our Lady of Soledad in Coachella, CA, and CV Pharmacy joined forces to keep our community healthy — offering a vaccination clinic to help protect our families and neighbors.

Father Francisco Gomez encouraged his parishioners to get vaccinated and care for one another.

All partners worked collectively to make it easier for our community to get vaccinated — no barriers, just care.

An annual tradition during Palm Springs Pride Festival is the honorees breakfast at Regional Medical Center. Attending this year (Nov. 9) were Desert Healthcare District & Foundation Board President Carole Rogers (left), former District & Foundation Board director and president Dr. Les Zendle, and Palm Springs City Councilmember Grace Garner. It’s a great start to parade day.

The third of six grand openings of CV Link took place today (November 7) on the pathway between Cathedral Canyon Drive and Date Palm Drive in Cathedral city. Desert Healthcare District & Foundation Board Director Evett PerezGil and CEO Chris Christensen attended. CV Link is a 40-mile paved recreational pathway across the Coachella Valley for walking, running and biking. Cathedral City was the first valley city to welcome the Coachella Valley Association of Governments’ installation of CV Link, from Ramon Road to Vista Chino in Palm Springs. Event speakers included City Mayor Nancy Ross and U.S. Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz. The Desert Healthcare District & Foundation was an early funder of CV Link, investing $10 million.
