As a Latina parent of a special needs child, it's important for me to acknowledge the stigma surrounding having our children diagnosed and more importantly the impact and how it affects our children to not be properly diagnosed. Please consider the well-being and future of our children in spite of stigma and how our families and culture deal(s) with neurodiversity. There is a history there and I understand the fear BUT consider the best interest of your child. I say this with Empathy and LOVE: YOU are your child's greatest advocate. Consider this: Black and Hispanic children are 20–30% less likely to receive early intervention services. https://www.behaviorfrontiers.com/blog/understanding-racial-disparities-in-autism-care

Racial and ethnic disparities in autism care still exist today. Learn how Behavior Frontiers is working to make autism diagnosis and care more accessible to all families—regardless of background.

Created a short 4-part series to reflect on my thoughts on current events. Conflict can be resolved. It requires listening, empathy, a desire to see our common humanity, and vulnerability.
It's not about agreeing 100% with each other, it's about recognizing our differences and leaning into the part of us that is human. The part of us (in each of us) that has needs- food, safety, security, shelter, emotional wellbeing, mental health & peace of mind, seeing our loved ones safe, happy, fed, having someone there for us (community, church, a friend, family member, volunteer on the end of a hotline; someone who ultimately says YES I am here for you in your moment of need).
I could go on, but my hope is that son sees the good, the helper, God's grace in the ugly and scary we see in the news. We can find peace and we can resolve conflict if we seek to understand, learn, and use the right tools.

As a working parent, I know how tough it can be to get schedules aligned, wash away the workday, and just be present and connect. It's a daily habit and practice. Whether it's sitting down together for a meal, reading stories at night, or a walk around the block comment what you do for connection. One comment will be picked at random for a small boardgame giveaway.
