Across the country, public health officials are investigating a Listeria outbreak linked to contaminated foods in several states, according to the CDC. Listeria is a bacteria that can cause serious and potentially fatal illness for pregnant women, people older than 65 and those with vulnerable immune systems.
Listeria symptoms vary depending on the person infected, but listeria can cause flu like symptoms (high fever, chills, muscle aches, stiff neck, and diarrhea or upset stomach), so it's important to be seen by a medical professional as soon as you start to experience these symptoms.
How to avoid listeria?
1. Avoid raw dairy.
2. Limit your intake of deli meats and meat salads.
3. Avoid smoked or refrigerated seafood.
4. Wash hands before eating.
5. Store protein safely in the refrigerator.
Please contact us immediately if you are experiencing the symptoms listed above.
