“What I do when I feel like I’m failing.
First, I remind myself:
I did not come to this decision - having weight loss surgery - lightly.
I knew it would be hard.
I knew there’d be bumps in the road.
But actually living through them?
Sometimes it’s harder than I thought.
And it’s something no one can completely explain ahead of time.
I choose to wake up every day and recommit to myself and my health for life.💙
Yes, there are days I get off track with my vitamins, my protein, my water, or my exercise.
Not because I don’t care…
but because life happens.
Because work is demanding,
or I’m caring for aging parents,
or I’m just too tired.
But then I remind myself of everything I have done:
📌I survived that liquid phase.
📌I figured out what my tiny bariatric surgery pouch could handle.
📌I made it through awkward social meals.
📌I set up a vitamin routine, even if it took trial and error.
📌I answered people’s questions, even when I wasn’t ready.
That all counts.
I’ve been doing the work.
And on the days it feels like I’m slipping…
I remind myself I’m still in it. I really am!
I’m learning what helps me stay on track:
👉 prepping protein bites on Sunday afternoons
👉 putting my vitamins on auto-delivery,
👉 carrying water with me wherever I go,
👉 going back to basics when I need to, without judgement
I also lean on the support I have:
Dr. John Yadegar, the team, and my fellow patients who remind me I’m not alone.
So when I feel like I’m failing, I try to speak to myself the way I’d speak to someone I love:
“You’re not failing. You’re adjusting. You’re figuring it out.
You’re showing up. This is what success really looks like.
Messy. Imperfect. Ongoing. But full of heart and effort.”
So no, I’m not failing.
What I’m doing is succeeding.
And I remind myself of that every day.💙”
