We’re saddened today to report eight people, ranging in age from their 40s to 90s, who have died from COVID-19. Five are recent deaths of residents from Anchorage and Wasilla. Three additional people – from Anchorage, Kenai and Wasilla – were also identified through death certificate reviews as having died as a result of COVID-19 in the past month.
We want to extend our condolences to not only these eight individuals’ families, loved ones and communities, but also to everyone who has lost a person they care about to COVID-19. Every single one of these losses is hard, but please know that you are not alone in your grief. It is shared by those of us at the Department of Health and Social Services and Alaskans all across our state.
If you are grieving someone, we encourage you to turn to friends and family for support, seek comfort in spiritual activities that are meaningful to you, and if you find it too much to bear, seek out additional help from a therapist or counselor. There is no shame in asking for help – we all need a helping hand from time to time.
