Living in the Alaskan winter with limited sunlight and our crazy weather this year can be rough. With good nutrition you can have energy even in the worst of the winter blues. This week, Ashley is highlighting two powerful Alaskan favorites:
🐟 Salmon: Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which support brain health, reduce inflammation, and play a role in mood-regulating pathways like serotonin and dopamine. When you’re out fishing this summer just think how your salmon in the freezer or canned can help boost your mood during the long winters!
🫐 Blueberries: Packed with antioxidants that help reduce oxidative stress and support brain health. (Fun fact: Alaska-grown blueberries contain even higher antioxidant levels than many grown in the Lower 48!) We’ll see you in Hatcher Pass this fall!
Small choices can make a big difference. Try incorporating these into your week, and don’t miss Ashley’s favorite recipe cards to make it easy.

🌄We’re honored to be a Radiating Hope Center of Excellence! Thanks to Dr. John Halligan, Dr. Jamie Blom, Dr. William Magnuson, and Dr. Larry Daugherty for their leadership and continued support of this important work in 2026. 🇮🇹We’re also excited that representatives from Alaska will be participating in Radiating Hope’s fundraising expedition in the Dolomites in Italy this June, climbing iconic via ferrata routes and raising awareness and support for global cancer care.
🎗️We’re proud to stand with organizations making a difference both in Alaska and worldwide.

🩺When Medical Leadership Meets Global Compassion 🌍

Radiating Hope extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. John Halligan, Dr. Jamie Blom, Dr. William Magnuson, and Dr. Larry Daugherty for their continued support in 2026 of our Centers of Excellence Program in Alaska, which includes these outstanding centers:

-Anchorage Radiation Oncology Center
-Peninsula Radiation Oncology Center
-Mat-Su Valley Cancer Center
-Alaska CyberKnife Center

While they care for patients in their own communities, their generosity also helps Radiating Hope expand access to cancer treatment for patients in need around the world. 💛

🏔️ And the impact doesn’t stop there…

This June, we’re proud to host four representatives from our Alaska Centers of Excellence on a special fundraising expedition to the Dolomites in Italy. Together, our team will climb iconic via ferrata routes and stay in mountain huts high in the Alps — raising critical funds and awareness with every step.

If your cancer center is interested in joining the Centers of Excellence Program, we’d love to connect:

🍎Good nutrition plays a vital role in cancer prevention and can help patients stay stronger during treatment. This March, our Registered Dietitian, Ashley, will be breaking down how nutrition choices can make a real difference using foods that are abundantly available right here in Alaska. Ashley, a master’s-trained dietitian and member of our Integrative Care Team, provides practical, personalized guidance to help patients nourish their bodies with confidence.

We’re excited to spotlight her expertise all month long, and yes, she promises not to push kale on anyone. 😉

🦶"Patients are always surprised that we can treat Plantar Fasciitis with radiation therapy. I have treated many feet successfully and those patients are back to hiking, running, and living their lives without the constant pain that this benign condition causes." -Dr. Eugene Huang, Chief Medical Officer, Aurora Integrated Oncology Foundation
Advantages of Radiation Therapy for Benign Disease Treatments:
▪️Minimally Invasive
🎯Targeted Treatment
▪️Effective at shrinking or eliminating benign growths, alleviating symptoms, and preventing recurrence.

🩷February is the season of love, and in cancer care that includes protecting what matters most, your heart. AlignRT, the radiation therapy system that we use right here at our clinic, allows radiation treatments to be delivered with greater precision, helping minimize exposure to the heart and surrounding healthy tissue compared to older methods. ❤️This is especially meaningful for patients undergoing treatment for cancers near the chest, including breast and lung cancer, where heart protection is critical. Thoughtful innovation like this reflects our commitment to safer treatment, better outcomes, and caring for the whole person, not just the cancer.

🩷During National Cancer Prevention Month, we’re reminded that in Alaska, where cancer rates remain higher than national averages, prevention and early detection offer real hope. Just as important are the spouses, partners, family members, and friends whose encouragement often leads to screenings, appointments, and care.💗Their love, advocacy, and support are powerful, and they save lives. ❣Happy Valentine’s Day, let your health be part of your love story!
