One of the most common questions we get is:
“How often should I have my skin checked?”
Short answer: it varies by each person depending on their age and skin cancer history.
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends:
👀 Check your own skin regularly
Look for anything new, changing, or unusual, including:
A spot that’s growing or changing
A mole that looks different from others
A sore that doesn’t heal
A spot that itches or bleeds
🩺 See a dermatologist if you notice anything concerning
Don’t wait — early skin cancer is often easier to treat.
📅 If you’re at higher risk, you may need to get checked every year.
This includes people with:
A personal or family history of skin cancer
Fair skin or many moles
Significant sun exposure or tanning bed use
If you're not sure, come see us! We'll go over your risk factors together and give you our recommendation.
