Did you know pregnancy and Infant loss affects 1 in 4 women? Each year, approximately a million pregnancies in the United States end in miscarriage, stillbirth, or the death of the newborn child. No matter the cause, pregnancy and infant loss is a sad reality that profoundly affects women both physically and emotionally, in addition to their partners, children, extended families and friends.
Ronald Reagan, President of the United States of America, in 1988, proclaimed the month of October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.
For me through these last 19 years, this secret society or club has turned into a badge of honor. These years have been the most kind-hearted, gentle, heartbreaking, disturbing, guilty-joy, beautiful, awful, loving, hopeful, lonely, disastrous, fearful, and anxiety-ridden whirl of emotions I ever knew I could feel all at once.
On October 15, every year since 2003, at 7:00 p.m., in all times zones across the world, candles are lit for all babies gone too soon; this is called the Wave of Light. You are welcome to partake in this remembrance, whether you are directly affected or not.
