Kara Kara provides bereavement support to children, teens, families and adults. Kara is dedicated to ensuring that therapy services are accessible to the community.

Our vision is to see people of all ages compassionately supported on their journey through grief so they can move toward renewed hope and meaning. Kara services offer emotional support and information to those grieving a death or coping with a terminal illness. Kara provides a safe place to express and normalize feelings of grief, to learn to integrate grief and move forward with renewed hope and meaning. Kara offers both peer support and therapy

Kara peer services are provided by volunteers with experience in healing from their own personal loss; volunteers who are carefully screened, trained and supervised. Donations are gratefully accepted as we do not charge a fee for peer support services. Grief therapy services are provided by interns who have completed their course requirements and are working on their client hours for licensing. Therefore Kara provides services for a reasonable fee and program staff will be happy to discuss the fee schedule with you. Kara does not espouse a particular religion or philosophy. We encourage those we serve to draw strength from their own personal spiritual beliefs, family, friends and other community resources to build sustaining support.

Stigma is prevalent surrounding su***de. We can help to reduce it by being just a bit more conscious about the wording we use to describe it. A lot of common language around su***de, such as "committed su***de" imply criminality to the act itself, which can make a person less likely to want to bring it up.

"Grief is a giant neon sign, protruding through everything, pointing everywhere, broadcasting loudly, love was here. In the finer print, quietly, love still is."

This list is just the beginning of signs to look out for when someone may be considering su***de. If you notice any of these signs, do not be afraid to ask how this person is doing. Contrary to popular belief, asking someone if they are considering su***de does not make it more likely for them to actually do it. In fact, reaching out in that way may show them the support they need to save their life.
