Kara Kara provides bereavement support to children, teens, families and adults. Kara is dedicated to ensuring that therapy services are accessible to the community.

Our vision is to see people of all ages compassionately supported on their journey through grief so they can move toward renewed hope and meaning. Kara services offer emotional support and information to those grieving a death or coping with a terminal illness. Kara provides a safe place to express and normalize feelings of grief, to learn to integrate grief and move forward with renewed hope and meaning. Kara offers both peer support and therapy

Kara peer services are provided by volunteers with experience in healing from their own personal loss; volunteers who are carefully screened, trained and supervised. Donations are gratefully accepted as we do not charge a fee for peer support services. Grief therapy services are provided by interns who have completed their course requirements and are working on their client hours for licensing. Therefore Kara provides services for a reasonable fee and program staff will be happy to discuss the fee schedule with you. Kara does not espouse a particular religion or philosophy. We encourage those we serve to draw strength from their own personal spiritual beliefs, family, friends and other community resources to build sustaining support.

Kara's Candlelight Service of Remembrance is tomorrow evening!

Please join us for a meaningful evening of remembrance where personal sharing on the themes of Memory, Hope, Love, Courage and Community come together with live music and culminate in a special candle lighting ceremony to honor loved ones who have died. For those joining online, please feel free to use a standard or electronic candle as part of the community ceremony.

This hybrid service is open to all. An opportunity to support Kara financially will be presented at the conclusion of the event and a light refreshments reception will be held immediately after the service in the adjacent fellowship hall.

We hope to see you there!

"Deep grief sometimes is almost like a specific location, a coordinate on a map of time. When you are standing in that forest of sorrow, you cannot imagine that you could ever find your way to a better place. But if someone can assure you that they themselves have stood in that same place, and now have moved on, sometimes this will bring hope."

- Elizabeth Gilbert

"But you can build a future out of anything. A scrap, a flicker. The desire to go forward, slowly, one foot at a time. You can build an airy city out of ruins."

For nearly five decades, Kara has been a place where connection brings healing. In our circles of support, people share their stories, tears, and memories—and discover that even in grief, they are not alone.

Every hug, every shared moment of understanding, reminds us that connection is what carries us through loss.

Because of you, thousands of children, teens, and adults find the courage to reach out and the comfort of being met with compassion. Your generosity ensures that our peer grief support services remain free and accessible to anyone who needs them.

One client expressed the relief your support makes possible: “Dealing with the loss of a loved one is not easy. Kara took away the financial burden during this time.”

Your heartfelt contribution eases the financial strain on grieving hearts. With your support, we can reach our $400,000 end of year goal and keep hope and healing within everyone’s reach.

Please make a gift today and help us build a community of compassion and connection to ensure that no one faces grief alone.
