Surgery really is an endurance sport—requiring conditioning, dedication, and focus to stay in the game. 💪💪💪

In my 40’s, I started experiencing chronic shoulder pain requiring physical therapy and cupping (swipe for post-session photos).

Musculoskeletal pain from surgery is really common- nearly 9 in 10 surgeons experience it. Mostly due to neck (~58%), back (~68%), and shoulder (~48%) pain from long hours in the OR, repetitive movements, headgear/lights/loupes, and posture.

Strength training is important to support your neck, back and shoulders to avoid injury. It’s easy to forget about our own health when we are helping others- this is my reminder to put my life vest on first. Maybe it can be yours too.🫶🏻

Day 2 at WIO:
If conferences had Oscars, today would’ve been a sweep. 🏆

We had it all—laughs, tears, pearls of wisdom, dancing, and a record-breaking keynote from the Glaucomfleckens, who somehow made life, death, and love hilarious while inspiring us all to find our why.

Dr. Erin Shriver’s Bernice Brown Award Lecture brought us to tears, packed with the substance of Erin- thoughtful leadership, advocacy, inspiration, guided by personal experience and heart. My favorite moment of the day for one of my favorite humans, mentors, and friends. 🩷🩷🩷

The academic all-star session dropped so much wisdom about success in academia, by an all ophthalmology chair panel.

Sprinkle in Zumba, yoga, pickle ball, poolside dancing, and nonstop reunions with friends and colleagues- it was the perfect WIO day.

What was your favorite part? 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 If you’re here and I haven’t met you yet— please come say hi!!

Grateful for the mentors who have shaped my journey in oculoplastic surgery — but especially for my preceptor, Dr. David Tse.

Dr. Tse is the greatest mind and mentor I have known. He taught me that curiosity and passion should guide our profession and to never stop pushing boundaries.

It was such a treat to welcome him to Stanford as a featured speaker at the BAOC, introduce him to my first fellow, and even give him a glimpse into the next generation of education through VR.

Oculoplastics is where I’ve found my family, my joy, and my purpose. Feeling so thankful for for the teachers who continue to inspire me every day and the opportunity to share my joy with the next generation of surgeons. ❤️

Day 1 of the BAOC (Bay Area Ophthalmology Course) kicked off with 11 expert faculty from across California and beyond- including guest speakers Dr. David Tse from Bascom Palmer and Dr. Jurij Bilyk from Wills Eye—two legends in the field.

Outstanding lectures, rich discussion, and impactful learning to elevate oculoplastic education. Excited for what’s ahead!

Honored to host Dr. Don Kikkawa (Professor and Vice Chair at UCSD) as our Stanford Ophthalmology Grand Rounds speaker and visiting professor — sharing world-class wisdom, clinical and surgical pearls. He has taught me so much over the years; it was a true privilege to welcome him to teach our residents and inspire the next generation.

If you haven’t heard his talk on how technology makes us better doctors, it’s a must!! 🙌🙌🙌

This is 45!
Another year past and I’ve been reflecting on health and gratitude. I’ve finally started to find balance between work, family, and wellness- and feeling fabulous about my choices!
I’m putting my oxygen mask on first. Finding time to work out, play tennis, and snuggle with my girls each night. I am also focusing on my diet, my skin care, and more sleep. I am so grateful for where I am right now. We get so caught up in what’s next, but let’s not forget to appreciate what we’ve already got—our health, our families, our journey. Feeling healthy, thankful, and full of love.

I’ll share some skin, health, and wellness tips as I navigate 45! Cheers to taking care of ourselves and living with gratitude! 🥂🥂🥂
