May God bless our efforts this year similarly! Come cheer us on this Saturday at our packing party in San Jose. My kids are coming for their third trip and I’m reprising leading my 5th trip. Interesting piece from Paul Thiebaut III, founder of one of Palo Alto Community Fund grantees 10 Books A Home. Their focus is on preventing the achievement gap by focusing on children's intrinsic learning values rather than by making judgements based on measures that often have little to do with fostering a love of learning in children.

By encouraging reading as a jumping-off point into a life of learning, and applying Paul's ILM method of teaching, 10 Books A Home has seen children who would typically start school 18 months behind become happy, engaged learners who match or even exceed their peers abilities.
