The organizations operate cooperatively in

partnership to deliver health care, social services and housing. PHC provides services through a collage of community agencies consisting of staff, trainees and volunteers including the Palo Alto Medical Foundation and Stanford University as well as the generosity of many. Our common thread is our mutual commitment to the promotion and maintenance of human dignity, health and safety.

What do PHC and environmental health have in common?
Lower income communities face greater environmental health risks.

-Higher environmental exposure: Lower‑income communities are more likely to face polluted air and water, industrial proximity, and fewer green spaces, leading to worse health outcomes.

-Greater vulnerability to climate extremes: Limited access to cooling, heating, and resilient housing makes heat waves, wildfires, and storms more dangerous for lower‑income individuals.

-Housing instability amplifies health risks: Lack of stable housing increases daily exposure to extreme weather, poor sanitation, and untreated environmental illness.

-Barriers to healthcare and recovery: Limited access to care and fewer financial resources make it harder to prevent, treat, and recover from environment‑related health impacts.

You know what time it is!

Stable housing is the foundation that makes everything else possible: holding a job, attending appointments, rebuilding relationships, and reclaiming your path. Without it, every other step toward stability becomes exponentially harder.

Twenty years ago, we looked out the window of our two-room clinic at a beautiful old Victorian next door and thought, what if? Last week, we stood before the Palo Alto City Council and took one big step toward making that dream real. 51 Encina Avenue could become a world-class mental health and medical center for our unhoused neighbors! More space, more care. We’re grateful for the Council’s time and this community’s support. Stay tuned.

The numbers don't lie. Our community is finding us faster than we can keep up and with recent federal policy shifts, we expect that gap to grow even wider. We're doing everything we can to expand our capacity and meet every patient who walks through our doors. More to come on that soon. Thank you for standing with us.
